Won Kok Restaurant

Description

This Chinese restaurant is very popular, always lively, serving up authentic Cantonese food at reasonable prices. Try one of the many noodle dishes or its rice porridge, thick and just the ticket if you are looking for something plain to fill your stomach. The fact that it is open late makes it popular with the club crowd that comes here with appetites after a night of dancing.

My husband and I found this Restaurant merely by passing by late one evening after being picked up at train station. I have to say the food is excellant and we were served promptly. The waiters were very courteous and tended to our needs. Usually when they are crowded we don't get attended to as we would like too though. The restaurant is kind of old school vintage style, could use a remodel for some new tables and chairs. Although the look can be decieving, the menu is delictable and large size portions for your buck. I would reccommend you come out on a weekday or night to avoid the crowd. Parking is usually easy cept on weekends.

Indeed, it's not impressive looking around the place and dealing with the waiters; however, i keep going back there for the very tasty food at very reasonable prices. I also love their chicken pao and sesame bean!

I really enjoy eating at Won Kok. I come into downtown L.A. about twice a week for work and always eat lunch here. The place is big so there is never a wait to be seated. A group of people can feast like kings for next to nothing. They offer good lunch specials and the burrito size egg rolls are a big plus. The only downsides are that the waiters are not the friendliest or fastest. And hold on to that glass of water because nobody is coming back to refill it unless you ask two or three times. The Health Department grade for this place fluxes between B and C (but then again, most restaurants in Chinatown seem to have at best a B rating). Parking can be a pain at times and they will cram as many cars into their tiny lot as possible. The Chinese Pastry counter in front is always packed, so something most be good. I have taken a whole lot of friends here and I would say 8.5 out of 10 really liked it. It isn't flashy, but good food for a great price. Just beware of the HOT tea they give you. I think they boiled the water in a nuclear reactor. THAT WATER IS HOT!

This place is very cool. I've been going there for several years. You can even eat late at night and wake up the next day and not have that nasty feeling of heavy food chillin out in you pansa. The food is good and it cannot be beat at $40 for 10 people!

What a freaking dump. My friend swore there was some good chinese food here. I never even had a chance to taste it & in no way is this a review of the food. This Sunday afternoon after waiting about 20 min. for any type of service, we were witnesses to the most grossest thing ever. My girlfriend noticed that one of the waiters was spitting into the bucket of dirty dishes from one of the tables that he was clearing. When she mentioned this, I thought surely you're mistaken & maybe he was retarded & was uncontrollably drulling, right? Wrong!! Both my girlfriend & my friend noticed that he was actually spitting in the bucket with the dirty dishes on purpose, in front of us. Gross right? What a freaking joke. After my friend brought this up to one of the other waiters & the cashier, they were just looking at my him like, huh? Maybe it's me, is this an ancient chinese custom? Surely this is not indicative of all Chinese restaurants in the area, but this was just F****** gross. Do not eat at this place.
