Good Sushi, But Pricey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/11/06
I like Sushi Gen. The atmosphere is nice, but the food is okay for the price. There are a few other sushi resturants in Little Tokyo that I don't want to name because I'm afraid they're going to get too crowded when I come to LA. For example, on a sashimi deluxe dinner... they give you a pretty full plate of fish, but 1/3 of it are tartare like chopped up fish mixed with scallions... which really are just leftovers that are packaged to look like something fancy. For 3 people on Feb 10, 2006, it cost $120 for a sashimi deluxe dinner, mixed a la carte sushi that we picked, yellowtail collar, 1 salad, 2 miso soups and a 1 glass of wine, and 1 diet coke. Don't get me wrong. The food is good... but the price isn't.

The food are very fresh, services are nice and the price is reasonable for Japanese food. I highly recommend it.

Defines party sushi
By Jen-Ban, 8/16/04
This place is hopping on Friday nights with fun sushi chefs and fun clientele. I like to go with a small group to eat and drink and make some noise. The food is not to be outshined by the atmosphere. I especially like the large portion sizes of fish and shrimp because I can eat a lot. Price is as expected, not out of range.

Alright, I've been going here for over 15 years. I noticed that the price has sky rocketed in the past couple years. What's up with that? I use to consider this place to be a great valued sushi joint, but now its one of those over priced - mediocre place. Time to look for an alternative.

Best Sushi ever!
By simon, 9/26/05
This is the place to go when you really like shashimi, best in California. Everything is absolutely fresh. The only thign i don't like is that service is a little slow, but that's only because the restaurant is so crowded from customers. My family and I go there every day and I'd definately recomend this place to anyone that likes sushi.

Great Sushi
By Michael, 2/2/06
The best sushi I have had. The wait is usually long to sit. Seems to be where all the locals go in little Tokyo. Fond memories of going there when first dating my wife.

Be aware: Don't eat in front of shushibar, very pricy and order sheet has no unit price, few sashimi and nigiri cost me $117.00 two time more my wife and daughter lunch special at regular table after 70 minutes wait.
