Sushi-Gen, Los Angeles

Today was a disappointment. We had a party of 5, but my brother in-law was pulling into the parking lot and we 4 of us sat first. They notice we were missing one of 5 and said, we can't sit you. We were already sat down and he gave us a minute. I went outside to get him and by the time I get back, the host asked my folks and sister get up and wait. He gave our tables to another party of 3. I was so upset. He said it's not fair to sit us when all party was not here and it was only 2 minutes. He made us get off the table and made us wait another 15-20 minutes for another table. The food was always premium, I come here enough times, given very generous gratuity every single time. So, basically he can be unfair to us, but he doesn't want to be unfair to others. We were embarrassed and people saw us sat down and get up after 2-3 minutes sitting down. This is the worst service from a restaurant host ever. Despite the disrespectful host, I still gave my fair gratuity today because the rest of the service is fine and I don't like making others suffer because of one uneducated idiot.

I love this place. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very friendly. Great selection too

Be aware: Don't eat in front of shushibar, very pricy and order sheet has no unit price, few sashimi and nigiri cost me $117.00 two time more my wife and daughter lunch special at regular table after 70 minutes wait.

Alright, I've been going here for over 15 years. I noticed that the price has sky rocketed in the past couple years. What's up with that? I use to consider this place to be a great valued sushi joint, but now its one of those over priced - mediocre place. Time to look for an alternative.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant.. For great sushi, it's recommended to sit at the bar, where the chefs will give you the best pieces. Expect to spend 50 dollars per person at the bar, and at the table you can share a sashimi deluxe plates with appetizers for a decent price. My mouth gets watery just thinking about their fresh japanese white fish with their fresh wasabi and lemon. Yummy!!

Overated! I went to this place on Saturday after recommendations from others. I heard the hour wait or so was worth it. The quality of sushi is that of a 3rd rate sushi restaurant, but the price is as much as a nobu, matushisa, or sasabune, etc. The customer service was not very pleasant. We asked 3 times to refill our drinks before we got service. As a Japanese customer who eats sushi weekly, I would have pass on this place.

I have been trying all Japanese food around US and other places, expensive(150$ per person for dinner) or cheap(10$ combo lunch), this one is the best. Stop by for lunch and you will know why.

Sushi Gen is such a great place for japanese food. The waitresses are really friendly, they always reccommend the best dishes and the newest dishes. The sashimi are thickly cut and nicely placed on the dish and garnished. The price is definitely worth it for its freshness. My favorite it the sashimi deluxe dish. It comes with everything and its only 30 dollars! The wait is worth it. Everyone has to try this restaurant!
