Sushi Gen Restaurant, Los Angeles

Today was a disappointment. We had a party of 5, but my brother in-law was pulling into the parking lot and we 4 of us sat first. They notice we were missing one of 5 and said, we can't sit you. We were already sat down and he gave us a minute. I went outside to get him and by the time I get back, the host asked my folks and sister get up and wait. He gave our tables to another party of 3. I was so upset. He said it's not fair to sit us when all party was not here and it was only 2 minutes. He made us get off the table and made us wait another 15-20 minutes for another table. The food was always premium, I come here enough times, given very generous gratuity every single time. So, basically he can be unfair to us, but he doesn't want to be unfair to others. We were embarrassed and people saw us sat down and get up after 2-3 minutes sitting down. This is the worst service from a restaurant host ever. Despite the disrespectful host, I still gave my fair gratuity today because the rest of the service is fine and I don't like making others suffer because of one uneducated idiot.

This is very popular for lunch, with a corresponding lengthy wait. No reservations. Prices on their set lunch have risen and the set menu has been somewhat curtailed, alas. We are less enthusiastic than we were a couple of years ago.

consistently good sushi

Hands down the best value sushi place in town. Not cheapest mind you - best value. Amazing sushi, sashimi, and chirashi combo deals, get stuffed for less than $30 for great, fresh fish.

Too noisy and the food tastes like it was mass produced. There are too many good sushi places all around to have to put up with this circus.

Of the many choices in Little Tokyo, Sushi Gen stands out with the best sushi around.

Sushi Gen is probably the best sushi in Downtown LA. And that's saying a lot considering all the options in Little Tokyo. The quality is always superior, and they make your everyday albacore, salmon, tia pieces all taste how they should. Nothing excessive, just the right amount of ponzu, salt, lemon, etc. to make every piece stand out.

The value for sushi or Japanese combination dinners in Little Tokyo. Always a line (even before they open). Sushi is fresh.
