Philippe - the Original
Since 1918, this place has been serving the best French-dipped sandwiches in the world. That seems logical because it was Philippe, The Original who claims to have invented the juicy concoction nearly 100 years ago. The prices haven't changed that much since; a roast beef, pork, turkey, ham or leg of lamb sandwich will satiate your palate and leave your pocket without a dent! Want a cup of coffee? Head here for a steaming cup at only 50cents.
this was the best french dip sandwich place ever. great price, great place, great people. had to go upstairs to eat cuz there were a few hundred people downstairs on friday at lunchtime. felt like i was in a 1910s school or church classroom lol. wait im sure the building was built around then.
Maybe Lakers fan should just eat at the game. The lamb sandwich is the best with wither bleu cheese or ssiss cheese, a side of their great potatoe salad and a dill pickle. Better than out of any deli pack from the store.
over rated........ we went there to eat for lunch and the dijon mustard is super hot!!!!!!! you would think they would say something but after we left upset and still hungry, some guy outside started giving us a hard time so much for the worlds best french dipped sandwich ive had better at subway.....
Well what else can I say that hasn't been said?
Phillipes is awesome! The roast beef sand in au jus, with a pickled egg and potato salad with plenty of that oh so hot n tasty mustard, mmmmm.
Try a desert with a cup of coffee, for a dime, please. This place is legendary. The counter is awesome, and you feel like you went back in time eating here guys and gals. You know that a place has got to be good when a lawyer, a cop, a trash truck driver, a tourist and a street person are sitting eating a meal all at the same time as me a transplanted Californian. Lots of good memories eating here with my family and my cousins family!
