Philippe the Original

Description

Since 1918, this place has been serving the best French-dipped sandwiches in the world. That seems logical because it was Philippe, The Original who claims to have invented the juicy concoction nearly 100 years ago. The prices haven't changed that much since; a roast beef, pork, turkey, ham or leg of lamb sandwich satiate your palate and suit your pocket! Want a cup of coffee? Head here for a steaming hot cup.

I took my family there for the first time and was surprised by the line to get in line! Since we were all adults, I sent my son to find a table and seated the family. Two of us stayed in line and hauled all the food. The lamb dip was the best, although everything was great ESPECIALLY the lemonade; not overly sweet, mild and refreshing. We had been advised by locals in line to order two each and we're glad we did. The whole place was like a party and we'll happily stand in line again.

I went to philippe last week for the first time in 20 years, but have been going there since 1965.I read the reviews on how much they had changed for the worse...I strongly beg to differ...It was better then ever.I had two beef dips both very wet, potatoe salad,a dill pickle and a glass of lemonade and they were all great, beef was tender and the roll was fresh.....Keep it up philippe..I forgot to say my lady had the Lamb, single dipped with bleu cheese and said it was fabulous

Great food at great prices, and a pretty fast way of getting customers served. Ignore the negative reviews. These people must be on some bad weed. If the place has been around for close to a century, would you think its just luck or they are doing something right? I drop by most times I'm in the area and bring sandwiches with me, back to Orange County for relatives.

I've been here a few times since I moved to LA six years ago. Each time I left dissapointed. I've tried the beef and the turkey, and always ask for extra au jus, but they refuse even if you offer to pay. I guess they don't believe in giving the customer what he wants. Portions are overpriced. Don't waste your time looking for parking or waiting in line. I doubt I'll be back..

I can say I did it once!. Very average food nothing special. I have had better beef dip sandwiches at undiscovered places. The quality of bread is awful. The lemonade was lacking in 'lemony' taste.

It is history all right, but common the sandwiches are not to die for. Compare to other sandwiches is o.k. and fine. I will go back to eat out there maybe in 1 year just to check it out.

I've been going to Philippe's for years and it never dissapoints!! The sandwiches are nothing short of amazing! This place is great to go to before a Dodgers game. The lure has to rest with the mustard. If you are going, soak your sandwich in their mustard!! Simply the best!!

Let's get right to it! Lines are long and unmanaged. It's very congested and does NOT have a 'stay and eat feeling'. They refused to serve au jus on the side, not even at a cost. I choke on dry food(as I have dysphagia)and when I ordered a French Dip, they dipped it themselves, which left it dry on the inside and soggy on the outside, not fun to eat! Find another, less hectic place to eat, there are plenty of restaurants in the area. Don't waste your time (and your hard earned money) at Philippe's. They are not grateful for the business and not willing to please the consumer.
