Philippe - the Original
Since 1918, this place has been serving the best French-dipped sandwiches in the world. That seems logical because it was Philippe, The Original who claims to have invented the juicy concoction nearly 100 years ago. The prices haven't changed that much since; a roast beef, pork, turkey, ham or leg of lamb sandwich will satiate your palate and leave your pocket without a dent! Want a cup of coffee? Head here for a steaming cup at only 50cents.
over rated........ we went there to eat for lunch and the dijon mustard is super hot!!!!!!! you would think they would say something but after we left upset and still hungry, some guy outside started giving us a hard time so much for the worlds best french dipped sandwich ive had better at subway.....
Pros: Popular name, and great people, unique environment.
Cons: Small portions and flavorless meat. Potato salad was disappointing! You want a good Pastrami sandwich? Go directly to Johnny's Pastrami On Adams and Crenshaw or Johnnie's Pastrami Restaurant in Culver city.
the sandwiches are ok and they are not a dollar, but let me tell you that the coffee is good. i don't know if its because its only .5 or because its really good. love that place for its coffee, not so much the sandwiches
I've been here a few times since I moved to LA six years ago. Each time I left dissapointed. I've tried the beef and the turkey, and always ask for extra au jus, but they refuse even if you offer to pay. I guess they don't believe in giving the customer what he wants. Portions are overpriced. Don't waste your time looking for parking or waiting in line. I doubt I'll be back..
