I definitely think this place is one of the better Chinese restaurants in town. Especially now that I've discovered the authentic menu. It has some really unique dishes that are extremely tasty. If you love to try new things and love when those new things happen to be great food, you should definitely give this place a try. The great thing is that if you go with friends or family that aren't quite as adventurous as you are, they have traditional americanized Chinese food too like general's chicken (which is delicious by the way) and beef broccoli; you know, the classics. They also have this type of Chinese fondue. You get a big pot of broth (either a spicy or regular; I also saw another table order a pot with half and half!) and you get to order from a whole list of meats and veggies to cook in the broth (the broth is on some type of portable burner). It's different but really good! I went with a bunch of friends so it was really fun. We just took our time eating and had a blast! That's another thing, we never felt rushed and the servers were all very nice.
My favorite items on the regular menu have to the the generals chicken, lettuce wrapped chicken and sweet and pungent shrimp. My favorite appetizer are the garlic chicken wings. They're not really Chinese food I don't think but they sure are good. On the authentic menu I really really like the smoked scallop and tofu soup and the fish in roasted chili sauce (it's extremely spicy but oh so delicious). The items I like the most for the fondue are beef, mushrooms, and tofu. But I do recommend ordering this when you have a few people to join you so that you can order a nice variety of items and not have a whole lot left over. Oh, the only thing is, I think you can only get the fondue during the winter (don't take my word for it though, I'm not quite sure).
Overall, the atmosphere is very nice. It's clean and the people are friendly. The prices are about average when compared to restaurants in its class (give or take a dollar). Of course their not as low as some of the Chinese buffets or fast food places but you have to pay for quality. And that brings me to the quantity. Man, are their portions big! They're definitely healthy portions. My boyfriend and I can split an order of general's chicken with a side of rice and we're golden. We normally order two dishes with rice because I like variety and we always take leftovers home. Some of the negative reviews on this place talk about how the prices are just so extremely high. It's totally not true. On some dishes they might be a dollar higher than other places but believe me, when you see the portions, you won't mind forking over that dollar. Also I've noticed that their alcohol prices are rather low. I got a good sized martini made with Absolut (not some cheapo vodka) for I think it was $7. Another time I just got a glass of their house chardonnay. It was only something like $4. I went to this Italian restaurant that charged $9 for a glass of house wine and it was disgusting.
Food Flavor/Quality: Great!
Variety: Authentic menu, Fondue, and regular Chinese
Price: Fair
Service: Wonderful
Atmosphere: Very nice and clean
All together, i really recommend that everyone give this place a try. I know it's been around for something like 20 years now with the same owners so they must be doing something right.
