The Resort on Mount Charleston

Description

Built in the early 1980s, the Mt.Charleston Hotel, Event and Conference Center recently went through a multi-million dollar renovation. The atmosphere at this charming log and stone hotel, nestled in Kyle Canyon, is a world away from the buzz of Las Vegas-- and it's only a 35-minute drive from downtown. The guest rooms feature electric fireplaces, feather beds and views of the surrounding Spring mountains. The Mt. Charleston opened a year-round outdoor ice-skating rink, complete with ice skate rentals, a hot chocolate stand and fire pit to keep skaters warm in the winter. Dining is available in the hotel's bistro which features gourmet coffee, homemade pastries and light breakfast and lunch offerings, as well as a large new outdoor patio opening up to the duck pond. It also features a steakhouse, offering full-service dining, and a lounge with overstuffed couches, plasma television and numerous fireplaces along with its specialty award-winning drink menu. Easy access to hiking trails, camping facilities, picnic areas, sightseeing and snow-skiing (in season) in the surrounding Toiyabe National Forest.

Will not be back!

We were greatly dissapointed in our stay. Got a great deal for the room but the amenities are less then what they advertise. Julia was very helpful when we booked the room, but once we ended up checking in a woman with a Russian voice was not so friendly. We found there was no golf course and the Hotel advertised 1/2 off appitizers from 12 am until 4 am. Well this is false advertising since there are no cooks there after 7:30 pm. And they were in a rush to get out by that time. the room was clean but we found a few Wolf spiders and the tub did not drain properly. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they enjoy staying at one of Siegel's places in Las Vegas,

Ok I just got back from staying the night at Mt. Charleston Hotel this morning..... This Hotel is nothing close to a resort ! OK where do I start ?? They do not tell you the hidden fee's until you check in, where you then see a letter stating since January 1st 2010 there will be a $ 6.99 charge for the use of the parking lot , wireless internet, wet & dry sauna . I did not bring my lap top because the sight said they did not have internet availability only to find out I am being charged for this service. Wet & Dry Sauna ?? Forced to pay for something that was dirty, no towles available, and not maintained by house keeping or anyone to clean up the place. And Parking Lot ?? Come on !! There also was a $ 25.00 incidental fee that was held on your card that they did not tell you until you arrived to check in.. Then I go into my room where the shower rod had fell down and was laying in the bath tub, a old dirty aluminum rod that left your hands stained with soft lead, the shower curtain drapes and plastic shower curtain was old & dirty. They need to invest in Pillow's . ALL the pillows in the room were flat with no fullness to them , it was like having no pillow's at all !! The small bar was never attended because I think the clerk at the check-in desk also was the bartender and the convienance shop clerk also, when she was not paying attention to her boyfriend most of the time..... The bar closed at 9pm and nothing else to do at all for entertainment. Some of the staff were smoking in the small lobby as you enter the building because of the cold, causing my family and other guest to walk thru a billow of cigarette smokeas you entered the establishment...... The night clerk was very unfriendly and did not know anything about customer service and the day clerk upon checking out was like night & day compared to the night clerk, she was friendly and explained in detail about the questions I had concerning the resort fees.... And they call this a RESORT !! Never again for us..... ( Word to the wise !!! )Don't waste your time or effort.........

Great Place
By ,
My boyfriend and I along with another couple stayed here Dec. 21-23, 2009 for the first time. We loved it! We found a great deal through Orbitz.com. The bar closes at 10pm which is early, but after spending 3 nights in Vegas we were ready to just relax...which we did. We went skiing for the first time as well, which as pretty reasonably priced; $90 for the day including ski rentals. The food at the hotel is amazing. Every plate we ordered was really good. The downside is that you can only eat there at the resort unless you travel 20 min to the next restaurant, which we didn't do, we just ate there because the food was so good. The heater didn't work too well one of the nights, but because it got down to 19 degrees, so we just slept with warm pjs and used 2 blankets. Overall we all loved it and are going to return next Christmas Vacation (we're teachers). The staff was nice and friendly, especially one of the ladies at the bar! Also, the resort is only a short 40 min drive from the airport, where we rented our car, we just entered the address on our phone's navigation system, and we had not trouble getting there. *they don't let you up the mountain to the ski lodge unless you have a 4 X4 or chains on your tires, we went to walmart 20 min away to buy the chains, next time we're just going to rent a 4X4 truck.

Never again
By ,
Stayed at the resort for the first time and the heat in the room didn't work. Complained to the front desk and we were given another room and the heat didn't work in that room either. So, we were returned to the previous room and the only thing we were told was sorry, there weren't any maintenance on staff since it was 12 midnight on a Friday night. Temperatures that night were 7 degrees. Also, dirty shower curtain and no cream/sugar with the coffee pot in the room. The worst part was no heat with just a simple hope it doesn't happen again from the desk clerk. Very poor customer service and we will not return.

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
By ,
Great restaurant, bistro, and bar but.... Bathroom in standard room are lacking maintenance (broken tiles, mildew on tiles and shower curtains, cracked sink); Dirty dishes in arcade upstairs and outside in the patio by the bistro. Appetizers served with dirty plates and some menu items are not available. What is available is served in very large portions (have a large appetite because no fridge or microwave in rooms).

I went to the hotel now known as the Resort for dinner on friday night with my Best Friend. The food was wonderful the service was great. Then they has a DJ in the bar. so, we decided to stay for a few drinks. I went to ask about room rates and was told that they were 20.00 dollars for that night only they were running a surprise special.. So, We decided to stay the night. The room was so clean. The front desk staff was very helpful. I had not been there in years and my last time was not so good. But let me tell you. what ever they are doing now I LOVE IT!! I will be back for more trips to the diamond that is in the mntn..Mrs.Very Happy

great restaurant
By ,
Had dinner at the resort over the weekend for a friend's birthday party. The food was fantastic. I have seen a big improvement since the last time I visited (last year). They must have a new chef or something. Our server was fabulous as well. I will be going back for sure. Next time I may stay for a night or two.

love the scenery

You will be surprised at what you find if you check out the Mt Charleston Resort. It is clearly under new management, the service has really improved. My husband and I go up to Mt Charleston all the time and we really felt a change when we stopped by the hotel on Sun. The restaurant was wonderful. The new menu is great. Overall the attitude of the staff just felt more friendly and helpful.

wonderful experience
By ,
My wife and I just stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. They gave us an upgrade since it was a special occasion. We had a great view from our suite and enjoyed a wonderful dinner in their restaurant. The service was great from all departments. The best part is that it is such a short drive from Vegas.
