Border Grill - Las Vegas
Welcome to the vibrant, modern Mexican restaurant overlooking the Lazy River just off Mandalay Beach, where Chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, Food Network's "Too Hot Tamales", want nothing more than to spice up your day. With two floors of patio dining, this hip, urban cantina is the perfect setting for sipping margaritas and savoring the bold flavors of Mexico while enjoying views of the beach and pool.
Border Grill has the single best Gourmet Mexican Food in Town and is Las Vegas best hidden secret. Chef Mike Minor has great knowledge of Mexican food and one can often find rare Mexican delicasies on the menu like Huitlacoche. A must have for locals and visitors.
I had the Chicken Chilaquiles and they were real good. When the plate was brought to me, it seemed a little small. By the end of the meal though, I was full and it was pretty good. It was expensive though. The reason I gave Border Grill 4 stars is because of their Tres Leche cake that they make. It is the best Tres Leche cake that I have ever eaten.
All the negative reviews on this place are true. We ate there last night and it was a HUGE waste of $95!!! Yes $95 for some dried up taquitos and nachos. It really was a waste of money. Go somewhere else, the reviews dont lie!
We went to this place based on their website and our proximity, The Mandalay Bay. We were thoroughly disappointed on all counts.
The food was very poorly prepared, lacked taste and was served cold. On top of this, it was expensive for this type of food. The chips and salsa didn't even measure up, and that's hard to ruin. We were totally baffled by this place.
The atmosphere was awful too. They played latin music, not Mexican, at an ear-piercing volume where you couldn't hear yourself think.
If you don't mind paying top dollar to sit in a nice room then this place is for you! I knew what prices to expect and assumed a meal worthy of it's cost. I have had much better meals for 1/10th the price. $95 wasted. You are simply paying to eat at the Mandalay Bay! The next day we prayed to the porcelain gods.
I LOVE Mexican food and was very excited to try the Border Grill and even more excited to see my favorite dish, chilequiles, on the menu. I could not imagine how some tortillas, chile sauce and cheese could cost $24---and was even more surprised to be brought out a plate of nachos. Yes, nachos. It was as if the waiter dumped out the basket of chips from our table sprinkled them with cheese and chicked and re-served them on a plate. My friends Chicken Enchiladas Verde was swimming in mole and he said that all he could taste was the half gallon of sauce in the bowl covering the enchiladas. I have no idea how they have survived serving less than mediocre dishes at astronomical prices. This was by far the most disappointing Mexican food I have ever had.
