Why I want to marry a Russian man?
So I can have a Russian mother-in-law to cook for me! Originally, a few friends and I went to went to Eliseevsky for the vodka, now we go back for the food. The recently expanded (it used to be only half size!) restaurant serves a wonderfull selection of authentic Russian fare. Now, I haven't popped over to Mother Russian recently to test their authenticity, but the glower on the tall blonde chef 's face is good enough for me. The dishes can be a bit pricey for a girl on a budget ($8-12) but the free shot of vodka (artisinal vodka made by the chef himself!) at the start of dinner will loosen those purse strings. This is a great family place as kids love the baked chicken and the kabobs (grown up girls love them too), though Friday and Saturday nights they have dancing and live music and it can get pretty loud for little ears. This is the type of place you go to with your friends get a little tipsy, do a little messy dancing and enjoy great fabulous food (try the broscht, it'll pull off your underwear). The waitstaff is very friendly and after a few shots of horseradish vodka (yes, it's true!)even the glowering chef starts soften. And make sure you don't leave without dessert, the tipsy lemon and the strawberry crepes will make you want to marry Russian too!
