Outstanding Mexican food and the most authentic you will ever find!!! Family owned since the '50's, El Sombrero has been a favorite amongst locals and tourists. The restaurant sits in its original location on South Main Street. It's a bit small, but the service and food is excellent. Everything is fresh and homemade on location. My favorite is the pork tamales and green burritos. Try it! You won't be sorry!!!

DON’T RECOMMEND!!! If you are in the look out for authentic Mexican food, this definitely is NOT THE PLACE. The food has no flavor to it; it’s expensive and literately a waste of money and time.

good but not great
By oside eats, 8/13/07
Im originallly from San diego California and I knkow good mexican food . This is a likttle above average pretty tasty stuff as being the best I dont think so. Kinda overpriced for what you get my average meal out of the tip and all is about 15 or 16 dollars each time (no alcohol included) kinda pricey for mexican food .

El Sombrero Has Theee Best Authentic Mexican Food
By Julie, 8/11/07
My sister found this little cafe when she moved here in 1977. Well, when I moved out here in 1982, she brought me to El Sombrero to eat. She told me then that the Mexican food that comes out of the kitchen there is the closest to what we ate back in Colorado. Let me tell everyone...IT IS!!!!!!!! Whenever I eat there, I ALWAYS eat their cheese enchiladas. I have eaten at 100's of Mexican Food restaurants throughtout the United States and El Sombrero's red enchilada sauce is soooooooo delicious. The cook has a special recipe handed down from family. The smothered bean burritos (with green chilie) and ground beef tacos are ultimately delicious. Those are my favorite foods but I have tried the guacamole tostados, guacamole dip, nachos, sopa fideo soup, rice, and their hot sauce and chips are super!!! The restaurant is located in the downtown area where even the celebrities will travel a long distance for the most superb Mexican food. Many dignitaries and televison anchormen have been seen dining there. Also, the owners are wonderful people who make you feel at home in their little cozy cantina/restaurante!!!

Closest to Home
By Sticky Note, 12/13/06
I am from El Paso, TX and this food is the closest to my hometown cooking as I've ever tasted. The service is slow, but the food is very good. I also liked the campy, old vibe of the restaurant. I recommend it to everyone who wants to get a feel for something that's REALLY Las Vegas, and not the glitzy, over-the-top fake stuff that is on the Strip.

Not no Taco shop
By Jon, 11/13/06
Little hole in wall resturant off the beaten path. Family owned for fifty years, hands down the best value for Mexican food in Vegas. Limitted menu but everything is made from scratch including the chips and salsas Check out the wall full of celebrities that have wandered into the place over the years. The nachos are to die for....

A must go place.
By RON, 9/16/05
This is a must have once a week for our family. The enchiladas, tacos, rellenos are really good. The people are friendly and you fit right in no matter who you might be. The place is small so do not tell too many people or we will have trouble getting in the door ourselves.
