unfair treatment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/15/11
I went to eat at coffee shop, el cortez has a policy they will only sit single people at tables in front. The problem is they seat two people at same tables. So if the place is half full and your single you can't get a table. Last time I went there I had to wait over twenty min for a table. there were atleast ten tables free. I comlained then and when I got home I wrote them a letter. I got no response. So I guess it is the policy to treat single people unfairly.

Been visiting Las Vegas at least 18-24 times a years ( I'm semi retire).Gets comps from almost every major 4-5 star hotel and almost every off-strip casino ranging from the Fremont downtown area to The Orleans.I would rated the hotel/casino a 4 out of 5 in service and 3 out of 5 in admenities. My biggest peeves from this casino is their tighness on their comps compare to your playing time on table games. Will stay here again in the near future if they're a bittle more generous with us table game players. You get a great value for staying at the hotel, but will not get better comps like the Gold Coast or Orleans.

This is about the hotel manager, Mr. John Dorweiler. I live in the Philippines now, and I carry no credit cards. After contacting 20 hotels for a late arrival reservation, Mr. Dorweiler was the ONLY manager that would give me a CONFIRMED RESERVATION with a CONFIRMATION NUMBER!!!! for an 8:00 P.M. arrival, WITHOUT a credit card guarantee. This is OLD Las Vegas style and class. Unheard of today in 2010. UNBELIEVABLE!!! In my opinion, he went above and beyond the call of duty. If his service is indicative of El Cortez, it is unbeatable. I am sure that my 3 day stay in March, 2010 will will be excellent. Great rooms, prices, and service. Thank you Mr. Dorweiler. This is an update. Stayed at the EC for 3 nights in March, 2010 Superb service everywhere, especially bellman Charlie. Free Limo to the airport when I left. Coffee shop has great food, and low prices. Best $40.00 room I've ever had. Extra clean, everything worked, good beds, and roomy. Met John Dorweiler, and talked for 30 minutes. Very nice guy. If you want a lot of fancy crap, go uptown and spend at least double the price. If you want good value, good treatment, nice employees, and top quality service, stay at the El Cortez. For sure 5 Star.

food food and more food
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/3/10
When we get to Las Vegas. We try to stop in at Flame Steakhouse. A bus driver friend took my wife and I to Flame Steakhouse. I take my wife there once a year. My wife loves their Australian Lobster tails or the Atlantic Salmon. My favorite is the Roast Prime Rib of Beef. We both love their French Onion Soup. We never have tried any of their Dessert yet. My wife said we need to order Dessert first. We are so full I feel they have great prices great food and better yet great services.

Sep 1 2009 We live in Beatty NV about 120 miles from Las Vegas. My wife had to go to Federal Court for Jury Duty.. I did not want to stay on the Strip because of traffic, too many people, etc. I checked the internet and found the El Cortez two blocks from the Court House.. I read about the El Cortez back in the 1950s and thought it would be a great place to stay, and a trip thru time.. We arrived about noon, and stopped at the Lounge bar, just beside the Flame Restaurant.. The bartender, Scott was informative and had all kinds of HOT tips for us, he told me about the Martini specials during Happy Hour 5- 7 pm.. After several beers, we checked in at 2pm.. I had reserved a VINTAGE room, I wanted to experience the rooms Bugsy Segal and cohorts had back in the 50s.. The room was up a flight of stairs just above the casino, small, as advertised, very nice furniture and art, three huge pillows on our Queen bed.. NO bed spread that you would wonder when it was cleaned last, but a crisp clean sheet as top cover Some good thinking there.. At 4:55 we went back to the bar to test the Mojito Martinis that Scott had told us about, he had already prepped the limes and mint and was shaking the drink when I sat on the barstool, HOW's that for service ?? My wife was going to have a glass of wine until I had her taste the Mojito Martini.. A woman came to the bar and ordered two glasses of wine, and looked at my drink. She said is that a mojito, I said that it was, a lot better than the wine she ordered.. She said "No, I have tried them at several different places in Las Vegas, and I only go to a place across town to get them".. The bartender asked us where we were going to eat dinner, I said, right there pointing to the door of the Flame Restaurant, he said " I am going to make your day" I replied how's that" He pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, a two for one dinner coupon, for the Flame Restaurant, and handed it to me.. Excellent and friendly service by Scott, our bartender.. Our dinner reservations were for 5:30pm, so we picked up our mojito's and started to the dining room.. My wife saw the woman that had ordered the wine at a table in the lounge, she offered her and her friend a taste of the mojito. She and her friend said that it was excellent.. We arrived at the dining room, and were shown to our table, we scanned the menu and decided we would have the Surf and Turf. The Surf and Turf is an 8 ounce filet and a lobster tail, the most expensive meal on the menu.. The meal was Excellent, and our waitress Sharon was very friendly, provided great service, and checked on us no less than five times during our meal,, Excellent food, Excellent service by Sharon (I hope I have spelled her name correctly). Excellent atmosphere, and music. Couldn't have been better.. As we were walking out of the dining room we saw the two women that had tasted my wife's mojito, they were eating dinner and drinking mojito martinis, one of the women said it was the best she ever had.. We went to the casino and made NEVADA a little more green, then went to our room for a good night's sleep.. My wife walked to Court at 07:30, I went down to the casino, got some coffee, made NEVADA green again.. I checked out of our room at 11:45 wondering if Bugsy had ever stayed in 2209.. Our stay at the El Cortez was a great TIME WARP, and overall a great experience.. If I ever have, or want to go to Las Vegas again, it will be to the El Cortez..

best hotel away from the strip
By Katie, 8/19/09
When my husband and i stayed at El Cortez for our 16th anniversary (and to get re-married by Elvis), we had a fabulous time. The hotel was quaint and we got one perk after another. Slots were loose. We received a free dinner from the hotel to celebrate our anniversary. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like to see Vegas and spend money gambling, not pay for someone's electric bill.

El Cortez Hotel & Casino is smelly.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/09
An older casino downtown that smells like it hasn't been aired out in decades. The only reason to stay there would be because it is cheap, but the stench of the casino stays in your clothes even if you just walk through it. Breakfast is cheap.

Great Cheapo Vegas
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/09
I stayed here last May, and upon checkin, received a voucher for another two night stay free. It was only good for the summer, and I couldn't use it, but a good value and offer if you can get back to Vegas for a quick weekend. I enjoyed my tower room. Not huge, but nice comfy beds with an additional seating area. Small bathrooms. Casino is great. Lots of old Vegas feel with a full pay 3:2 single deck BJ for $5 (sometimes even $3). Friendly dealers. Easy walk to the rest of downtown. You have to be willing to give up all the fluffy frills to stay here, but if all you want to do is sleep, drink, and gamble, this is the place!!
