This is the type of place where we would stay when I was a kid, so it was a bit of a trip down memory lane. The last time I spent $42 for a room was 1978. At first, it was hard to believe that these people could make money charging these rates in 2011. The night I stayed, 17 of the 25 rooms were occupied. A sixty-eight per cent occupancy rate for a weekday in late March ought to tell you more than any words I can muster. I understand why other reviewers tell you to call for reservations--- this place frequently sells out. Maybe that’s how they can afford to keep the prices so low.
When you stay here, you’ll deal with the owners. The work is actually done by the owners too. This is not a “McTel”. You won’t encounter some incompetent kid running the front desk. If you are looking for a pool, gym, or a free breakfast, get yourself on out by the Interstate. This is strictly four walls, a bathroom, great beds, clean linens, fluffy towels and nice people. That’s all you get. If you don’t feel right about paying less tahan half the price that the chain hotels charge, don’t stay here! (All the more room for the rest of us!)
i was traveling from michigan too la and got a flat tyre in my cadillac and got a room here for the night.the service was the best ever.the owner went out of his way to make sure i was all ok for the next morning to get a tyre he even drove me down the road as it was late at night when i arrived and took me to get some food.the rooms were clean the beds wow the best sleep i had the whole trip.thankyoy so much all the way from NEWZEALAND. brodie smith
We were driving from Louisiana to Las Vegas and we started to stop in Texas, but I had seen seen this motel on-line and decided to drive the extra time to try the Historic Route 66 Motel. It was so good, I arranged to be there in time to spend the night on my way home. It is a simple, very clean, no frills place to stay. It is just like the places we use to stay as kids on vacation. Get there early or make reservations, both nights they were full by 7:00 pm.
I've stayed here 4 times in the past 2 years, traveling from Kansas to California and back. The owner was friendly and helpful, the room clean and large enough, the internet great, the bed wonderfully clean and comfy. I arrived before check-in time and was welcomed. When I left before 6:00 a.m. was surprised to see the parking lot full as I'd heard nothing all night. Well worth the price. (Don't believe reviews by a parent of an upset child.)
I have been coming back to this fine motel, run by wonderful people for the past several years. I travel constantly, by car, and can ALWAYS count on clean rooms and VERY FRIENDLY SERVICE. Cathy and Mike Fulton go out of their way to ensure a safe and enjoyable time while in Tucumcari. Mike Fulton is always outdoors, maintaining the grounds, and Cathy Fulton is a pleasant presence at the front desk, always courteous and considerate.
Also, when someone has a special need, time and time again, the Fultons have gone out of their way to accomodate those needs. I have seen this first hand, during my stays at the motel.
I wholly endorse the Historic Route 66 Motel over all others in Tucumcari. Where else can you speak directly to the owners and not some corporate representative a thousand miles away? The prices are bargains, considering what the guest finds: Fresh linens, higher brand toilet and facial tissues, shampoo and, if requested, a microwave and small refrigerator. Rooms provide ample space for reading, writing and just relaxing.
The Historic Route 66 Motel is one of the best accomodations in the U.S.A., as per my own experience as a traveler these past three decades.
unfriendly, mean unhelpful in a crisis. my daughter was driving thru in a UHAUL which broke down. she was at the mercy of UHAUL, who didn't have the info of whether she could continue her ride or wait another day. the owners of the motel actually kicked her out after she was 1 1/2 hrs past checkout because UHAUL hadn't advised her of the truck situation. They were concerned that the 8.50$ they were paying to the maid was going to break them. were they so packed with customer's if that one room were not cleaned there were no other rooms avail? not in tucumcari new mexico.
so much for people helping out people in these united states
Reminded me of places I used to stay in the 60's on family trips. It might be old, but it's very clean and you have everything you need. I really think this was the nicest place to stay in town and it was extremely reasonable. Owners were very friendly and helpful and have really put a lot of work into this place.
When we arrived there on May 6, 2009 we were greeted by this friendly couple. We made earlier reservation for Q bed, but were upgraded to a K bed. The room and bath were spic and span, sparkling white linens, fluffy towels; nice plumbing and grab bar in the tub. No dusty corners and even the air conditioner louvers were clean.
So we decided to stay there again on our return trip on May 16. We got the same room but his time the room was upgraded with a microwave and refrigerator. We couldn't believe it for the price! The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant and we'll certainly make this place our regular stop.
We wish you the very best and keep up the good effort! You deserve great success!
We stayed here on our way back from Colorado in March. We had intended on staying on staying on the way there, but the weather changed our plans. The owners were understanding when we cancelled our reservations. When we did arrive the service was GREAT!! We stayed in one room and our teenagers stayed next door. The kids enjoyed the feel of the room. Our boxer was even welcomed. We are getting ready to head out West this summer and will definately be staying again. The value is good and the owners could not be nicer. When I was initally looking for a stop over place, every article named another motel. Skip it and stay here!
