Tia Sophia's
Description
There are many places in Santa Fe that claim to serve authentic New Mexican food, but at Tia Sophia's, you'll discover what authentic really means. This is a popular restaurant, so be prepared to wait. For breakfast, the most popular item is the Breakfast Burrito. This flour tortilla filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, potatoes, green chile and bacon will stave off your hunger for the rest of the day. The chile here is hot enough to cure the common cold, and the Green Chile Stew is authentic and delicious.
Fave dish is a hand held with sausage and red salsa, cx the cheese or order on the side to share. (it way too much) Least favorite about the place is their coffee. I'm not sure why but its just not that good. I can say the service is fast, friendly, and local. The food is good, not amazing, but it will satisfy you. It's a little over priced in my opinion but then it is on San Francisco St and they have to pay what must be a queen's ransom in rent. I do recommend this place but don't expect too much from the hype.
More or less exactly what you'd expect from a restaurant within two minutes' walk of the Plaza. Pretty ok New Mexican food in a pretty cute setting. You can do much better in town for local-style cuisine, but it still ain't bad.
It's just a down-and-dirty breakfast place (lunch, too, although I didn't have it), but the food was authentic, wonderful, hot, and very reasonably priced.
I was born and raised in Santa Fe and I know authentic New Mexican food - and Tia Sophia's is it. Every time I go back to visit, I always eat there a few times. They are affordable and tasty and truly authentic. Well worth the stop.
If you love Green Chile get the breakfast burrito. A large burrito smothered in a Green Chile Sauce, to die for!!!! My wife is from the area and we never miss a chance to have breakfast at Tia Sophis's when were in Santa Fe.
For truly delicious and authentic New Mexican food come here for lunch and breakfast. The food is the best around, served with warmth and pride. Every dish has its own unique flavor, using seasonal ingredients and fresh chile. The prices are ridiculously low for such quality, so come here instead of those other expensive and pretentious places for a real taste of Santa Fe. My friend and I went back several times and tried different dishes. Yum!
Don't eat breakfast there unless order breakfast burrito. Sausage burned & eggs undercooked. Posole cooked too long but found that the case in many restaurants...and too thick! Suppose to be "soupy." Lunch/dinner much better or at least from what I remember as haven't eaten lunch/dinner for a couple of years. Could use some sprucing up.
Excellent! My breakfast burrito was awsome! Everyone was nice and everything we had was spicey, flavorful and delicious. A must for breakfast when visiting Santa Fe...but plan for a wait...It's a busy little place.
Each visit to Santa Fe, we must have at least one breakfast and one lunch at Tia Sophia's. They have the best enchiladas I've ever tasted. And for lunch, just when you think you've eaten your way to heaven, they bring out the fresh sopapillas. Can't beat them!
