If you are looking for a quick meal, delicious food and a festive atmosphere, head to Counter Culture. The breakfast burritosscrambled eggs, bacon and red or green chile wrapped up in a flour tortillaare the size of small footballs. For lunch or dinner, try the Roasted Pepper Sandwich, Grilled Prosciutto or a fresh pizza with your choice of toppings. The food is tasty, convenient, and reasonably priced.
Lunch is great, eaten there many times over the past 10 years, but today tried breakfast...TERRIBLE...cold food, burnt toast, greasy potatoes with the eggs and burrito, slow service and lots of gastric distress after the meal...please bring it up to par with the lunch fare!
Service at Counter Culture is spotty, mysterious and dependent on the moods of the workers. People must go there just to have coffee with their Anglo friends outside in good weather, though seats in the parking lot are unattractive. Appeals to those who want to share tables--cliquish and cold; be careful to follow the rules. At any moment one expects a prison cafeteria scene from a movie. Cook's experiments abound as willing subjects serve as guinea pigs, so it's not for the faint-hearted.
I've lived in Santa Fe during the summer months for the past three years and I haven't found a more friendly, cozy, or healthly place to enjoy a morning meal. I would go almost every morning to read, eat, and chat. You will love it!
Counter Culture is one of the best lunch places in Santa Fe. If you're trying to escape the more touristy places, get a huge meal that's high quality, and not spend a lot of money, meet friends at Counter Culture. Whatever they do, they do it perfectly. They have a great variety of lunch offerings (breakfast too): anything from the Greek combo plate to Asian Noodles with peanut sauce to a luscious Thai Salmon Soup. This is not the place to go for New Mexican or Southwestern fare, but after days and days of that, it's a refreshing alternative.
