I'm from Tulsa. I've traveled all over Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and most every other state looking for good Mexican Food. Garcias is my favorite place. It is not fancy, it is a converted diner. Don't go there for the glitz. Go there for the food and feel. It's awesome on both counts.
The people who run it told us they had been there every day for ??a whole lot of years. So, consistent management.
I've eaten there 4- or 5-times now. Stopping on road trips. Sometimes having to adjust my itinerary to do so.
Are you kidding 4 stars on 4 reviews? This place is a converted Tasty Freeze. Stopped there last Friday at 6:00 PM on way back from Arizona after searching for it since seeing the four 4 star reviews-- we finally found the dump. Like stepping back into 1950 Juarez. No ice- and do not drink the water- if you want a soda you will get a can and a straw. I had the special pork chops with green, rice and a tortilla. My wife had chicken enchilladas. The rice was stuck together with uncooked hard pieces. The salsa chips were stale. To be fair the green chile on the side was tasty. No one else came in while we were there for 45 minutes.Bathrooms were terrible. Sorry 4 stars is reserved for El Paragua in Espanola, El Pinto in Abq, Gabriell's in Pojaque- or even small places like Papa Nachos' in Abq- try them and then let me know how many stars you give Garcias- and I am talking price also considered.
We frequently travel to Phoenix from Colorado. Whenever we're passing through Gallup and are hungry, we stop @ Garcia's! The food is always excellent; we're staying in Gallup tomorrow night and will either have supper there or breakfast the next morning - actually we'll likely do both!! If you like good Mexican food @ a reasonable price served in a family operation, this is the place to eat!
