Kelly's Brew Pub
This brewery has rapidly established itself as an Albuquerque favorite. It is located in a stylish old car dealership whose former showroom serves as the tavern. Everything about it drips with nostalgia, but not to the shameless point of reducing it to a cheap tourist attraction. A huge outdoor patio makes for a perfect perch overlooking historic Route 66 . Burgers, soups, salads, steaks, and even lamb shanks line its menu.
I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, MY FAMILY TOOK ME THERE OVER THE WEEKEND - THE BEER IS VERY GOOD, GOOD TASTING, BUT THE SERVICE IS THE WORST OF NEW MEXICO AND RUDE. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL CHANGE THAT AND HAVE EXPERIENCE EMPLOYEES THERE THAT WILL KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A BUSINESS.
I love this place, but do have to agree that often the service could be improved. The beer is good and the food has always been good too. It isnt gourmet but overall this is a great place to enjoy the evening on a great patio with a great beer selection.
Good beer, good burger.
If only they would have live music, it would be spectacular. But there's usually such a crowd here, that I guess they don't need it .. which is why I'm rarely there, except maybe for lunch.
I like the place because of its environment. It gets cool Albuquerque during the evening hours. But the waitresses here expect that we are going to serve them in this restaurant.
The food is not that great. But I may still go there again because of the atmosphere.
As with many such successful establishments, there comes with it the understood arrogance of, 'We don't really need you as a customer'. Which many of the Kelly's wait staff have acquired. Although there are a few hold-outs who are pleasant and who will try to serve you efficiently.
If you are approaching middle age, or are middle age or older, you may expect that service is going to be lacking. If you want to be served faster or by a more friendly waitress, take someone younger with you. Also, wait staff with seniority generally serve the outside customers (weather permitting), the newer waitresses, who are generally much more pleasant, will be the ones assigned to the inside tables.
The food is generally acceptable - sometimes even very good - and the local made brews can be quite good.
First of all, the service is TERRIBLE, even when it's not crowded! And then there's the food. It's disgusting. The menu sounds good, and as a vegiterian, I was pleased that they offered many meatless options, but they are all AWFUL. Not only that, but it is VERY OVERPRICED! The only food I'd reccomend there is the fried zuccini, and for the price, even that's a stretch.
Kelly's is great if you are hanging out with a large crowd, having a few beers (the home brews are interesting, to say the least), but it really isn't good for much else. It's convenient location right off of Central is good for people watching. Again, not much else.
