Samurai Grill and Sushii
Samurai Grill & Sushi Bar restaurant offers wonderful food accompanied by good theater. Some Teppan kitchens and sushi bars concentrate on style forgetting substance, but there is no need to worry about that here. The servings are more than adequate whether you choose the sushi bar, or the more formal Teppan grill. Some of the Sashimi specials are priced for the big spender with price tags from USD69 to USD120. Each meal comes with soup, salad, fried rice and assorted vegetables.
If I could give this place no stars I would! I guess the one star goes to our waitress...she was pretty awesome and did her best with the situation (I always feel bad when the chef is the problem and the waitress takes/gets the blame)...
I came in tonight with a friend of mine and we ordered a few rolls and some sashimi. I m allergic to avocado (bummer, I know! I wasn t always, so I know what I m missing...especially when it comes to sushi!), so we ordered one roll without avocado. Should be no big deal, right? I do it all of the time. Wrong! When the waitress brought our food she apologized and told us that the chef went into auto pilot and made my roll with avocado. She told me she was sorry and that he was making us another one and asked if we wanted to keep the mistake roll. No problem, mistakes happen...I ll wait. My friend got an extra roll out of the deal. No biggie. Then she brings out my new roll and there is no tuna on top. She said she was arguing with the chef about it but that he insisted on not putting new tuna on the roll and wanted me to take the tuna off of the mistake roll and put it on my new roll. What?!?! I was dumbfounded. What was is supposed to say to that?? And to top it off the chef was glaring at me with a major evil eye! I was in shock! I decided rather than to make a big deal out of it to go ahead and deal with it because the tuna was on the outside of the roll and the avocado was on the inside. By this point though I already knew I d never be back. And then it got worse! I went to take the tuna off the mistake roll and put it on the new roll and realized there was avocado smeared on the outside touching the tuna. That doesn t work for me, as I mentioned earlier, I m allergic to avocado. So I call the waitress over and she apologizes, says she completely understands and will have the chef make another roll. Now the chef is really mad...constantly glaring at me and shaking his head! It was unbelievable. I did absolutely nothing wrong! My new, new roll came without any sauce. Whatever. Super lame!! I didn t even bother asking for some. The rest of my meal was constant evil eye and head shaking. A really unpleasant dinner, because HE made a mistake! And the food= fairly disappointing...bland and the dragon roll didn t even have a head:( Especially for an $80 bill! Of course there was no manager in duty tonight...how is that? Sunday evening with no one overseeing the restaurant?? Is this the reason the sushi chef felt it was ok to be completely rude and give me dirty looks all night??! Where/when is this ever acceptable? Here, I guess! I will NEVER be back here and will be sure to pass the word around. And the 10% off coupon they gave us for next time...no thanks. You ve got to be kidding, we laughed when we saw that! If you want great sushi, good service, a better experience, and a cheaper bill= I highly recommend The Japanese Kitchen!
Side note= They don t make the California roll correctly:( You would think since it s the base for so many of their rolls they would have it figured out...
*This review ONLY applies to the sushi*
I really hope my experience was an off night. The miso was tasty and had that good deep flavor. The gyoza we ordered was just as tasty and we thought we might have found a new place to go to for sushi. The sushi was another matter. They were very busy on both sides of the restaurant. The sushi rice was very warm which warmed the fish in the rolls we had. The rice was coming apart and it did not hold up. The yellowfish tuna roll had a fishbone in it. The service was fine but the sushi was so bad. We have had a similar off night at Azuma once (warm sushi rice) one of our go to places for sushi and it has never happened again. We also frequent Shogun and Japanese Kitchen and have never had a bad night like we had at Samurai. Given all the good reviews here I was disappointed in the quality of the sushi. It’s unlikely we will go back to Samurai but I feel this place merits another visit if we find ourselves in the area and need a sushi fix. If you have a place you frequent and need quality sushi do not risk catching Samurai on a busy night.
I love the sushi and teppan grill. It is very fun to go with friends on a Friday night because everyone starts drinking and has a good time. Needless to say, Friday nights are not a good time to take the parents or others who want a quite dinner but earlier in the day everything is normal. Good food, good fun, I always have loved the food!
This is my favorite restaurant! It is so fun to watch flames and eggs and cutlery flying through the air as they prepare your food in front of you. The sushi is top quality, as well. I recommend the volcano rolls. They are to die for! The only negatives I have for the restaurant is that it's a bit pricey, and occasionally if they are short-handed the service can be less than perfect. However , I've been to this restaurant dozens of times and find that I'm most always satisfied with the service. The food here is UNBELIEVABLE! Sooooo good.
I am from the New York area and I do enjoy sushi quite a bit. Both my boss and I were pleasantly suprised to find a sushi restaurant that met our standards. I have eaten at Samurai a few times and I enjoyed the friendly service, excellent food and close proximity to my hotel.
While eating our dinner, it tasted good but when we returned to our hotel we experienced a MSG hangover.
MSG stands for Mono Sodium Glutamate. It is a food enhancer that can make you thirsty and at worst-send you to the E/R.
The protions were good, and our waitress was terrific but the MSG ruined it.
This is easily my favorite restaurant. The sushi is incredibly tasty, and I've never been disappointed. The service can be slow, but only because the place is quite busy at times. I've yet to sit on the grill side, because I like the sushi so much, I tend to eat just that! Definitely worth trying.
For an area known more for Mexican and Native American influenced cuisine, Samuri has surprisingly good sushi (and I am from NYC, where sushi standards are quite high.) Overall, Samurai's sushi is fresh and the selection is of a good variety. Moreover, the service is great. The waitstaff is friendly, attentive, and are usually willing to substitute items, etc. The prices aren't cheap, but the portions are well-sized, so you will definitely leave feeling full.
