Rudy's Country Store & Bar-B-Q
Just north of San Antonio, at the edge of the Texas Hill Country, sits the small community of Leon Springs. Founded in the 1800s by Max Aue, Leon SpringÂ's cityscape changed when MaxÂ's son, Rudolph, opened a one-stop gas station, garage, and grocery store. Bar-B-Q was added to the operation in 1989, and RudyÂ's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q has been serving up tasty food ever since. The same original recipes that built RudyÂ's Leon SpringsÂ' reputation are now available throughout the Southwest. Our pits are 100% wood fired with oak, a slower burning wood than the mesquite used by others. Along with time and oak, we cook with a dry spice that ensures each plate of RudyÂ's Bar-B-Q is perfectly ready for you. Apply some of our famous "Sause" and dinner is served. We have two locations in Albuquerque: 2321 Carlisle NE and 10136 Coors NE. (I-40 & Carlisle and Coors & Alameda).
By far my favorite place for good pit smoked meats. I CRAVE Rudy's, I am a big fan of thier smoked prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays. You can never go wrong with their brisket (lean or regular) or smoked turkey. Thier West Side locatation has these GREAT soft taco like creations with either brisket or turkey that are superb! Oh and the ribs....Haha no matter what you get there you will be pleased. Great meat in a very casual no frills atmosphere. A nice large Sweet Tea and any of thier sides or deserts will finish off the meal perfectly.
I came in for dinner, and left with a variety of goodies for future mmunching. The brisket was superb, as was the pulled pork, chicken & pork ribs. Quick service, friendly atmosphere, and you can get anything to go, even their their tasty homemade sauces. Easy access off I-40 (and Carlisle) for hungry travelers.
It definitely isn't bad... I don't like their saice very much... it is too thin. Interesting portions lend to the authenticity and overeating. I guess we finally need to realize that generous portions aren't always good unles 2 of you are eating for one. Rudy's is alright.
My brother, a new resident of Albuquerque, treated us to a late lunch at Rudy's and were we impressed. We now eat at Rudy's at least one time whenever we are in the Albuquerque area, which is often. This is a funky, clean, funny joint with great bar-b-q. I know there are many styles of bar-b-q and I dont know them all but, Rudy's produces the sweet, smoked, tender meat that I equate with great bar-b-q. I order a quarter pound of ham and have a side order of potato salad or whatever appeals at the time, no bread to mask the flavor and just a little sauce. Wow.
We are going to Albuquerque and Santa Fe tomorrow and Rudy's is the first stop after we pick up our rental car. Get ready rudy's here we come.
