Hard to say, but the First Street Cafe in Grants sure tries. In addition to the prices, its menu is massive, with the cook probably able to prepare, or at least try to, any type of dish. Except Italian food, which for some reason does not exist in Western New Mexico.
First Street tries its best to be the comfort food capital of Cibola County. In a part of the country where Mexican, American, Native and local hybrid New Mexican foods all seem to converge attempting to reach that wide of a customer base must give the owners frequent sleepless nights. But, try they do.
For me, the First Street Cafe is a great, in fact, top level breakfast diner. Great selection and taste with good prices. It also does a good job with dinners, offering big, good crafted portions with the taste you'd expect. And, prompt service.
Regardless of the Italian Food caper, First Street Cafe doesn't disappoint. But, it also doesn't impress. It's a great, no surprise, basic, regular diner type place. A place where you go to eat, maybe coming in off the road, or on the way to work, or, when mom and dad just need a night out. That kind of place. Like diners used to be.
The locals better support this place. Because it is good.
