Frontier Restaurant

Description

For the last 20 years Frontier has slowly acquired the better part of the block facing Central Avenue across from the UNM campus. You will see study groups, people having coffee and lunch or the famous Frontier Cinnamon Roll, which is a huge, fresh sweet roll swimming in butter. The atmosphere is western and simple, with booths and tables. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at no particular time. New Mexican dishes, sandwiches, soups, stew and salads, chicken, ribs, fresh squeezed juice, sodas, tea and cappuccino are also offered. Frontier has special timings for holidays.

Interesting, but Overrated
By Bob Johnson, 10/21/05
Heard good things about the place and its Breakfast Burrito, but was diasappointed. Was an average size burrito, flour torilla was doughy, only two slices of bacon and a hint of green chile and cheese. Not great for $5. Guess I'm used to burritos that are almost twice as large for $4 (San Diego, CA places)

Always been the hangout
By Nastassia S, 9/26/05
The frontier has always been the place to go when there's no where to go. The mix of people there is interesting. Trendy students to business people to families to crazy loons off the street alike, they all enjoy the food. The food is much better than the atmosphere. If it's clean and neat you're after, this is not the place for you. But if you're willing to overlook the old building and the dusty funky retro western decor, then enjoy a bowl of green chile stew, the enchilada platter, or a carne adovada burrito! The western style hashbrowns are always a pleaser as well. New Mexican food not your taste? Frontier has great burgers, salads, and the chopped steak platter is a great dinner at just under 7 bucks! If you don't like the atmosphere stop by any of the Golden Prides and opt for take out. The breakfast burritos there are awesome and not too harsh on the wallet either!

Sweetrolls
By Silver, 9/20/05
I grew up going to the Frontier. My dad used to take me and my sister for sweetrolls as a treat. Now that I have a son of my own I carry on the tradition. Of course there is always the other food, Cheddar Cheese Hamburgers, has browns, breakfast burritos... and the people watching is the best anywhere.

Tasty food in a unique environment
By John Mark, 8/15/05
Frontier is a great little restaurant--definitely not fancy--but the food is really good and the atmosphere is great. We ate breakfast there and loved it! Very reasonably priced for a LOT of food.

Im addicted!
The word is addicted! I usually go to Golden Pride (on Central Between Eubank and Zuni) which is the same restaurant and food as the Frontier, it just has a different name. I havent had anything there yet that wasnt good! Im addicted to the #9 breakfast burrito which contains egg, bacon, hashbrowns, cheese and roasted green chile on one of their yummy tortillas. A couple of my other favorites there is their Carne Adovada burritos and their smoked chicken!! Everything tastes pretty close to homemade and their chiles both red and green are to die for. The only problem I have with this place is that the price is a bit high but am willing to pay it because I am addicted!

the final frontier
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/05
what can you say, you havent been to burque if you havent been to frontier. the enchiladas are mucho tasty, they have unlimited chile goin on there, and their Tortilla soup is an absolute must have. if youre ever up at 2am and want something tasty but dont want to eat heavy run over and grab this soup. THEY ARE OPEN 24-7 and if youve stayed in burque for any length of time you know this is more than a rareity. if youre doing breakfast get the cinnamon roll. just go to frontier, its an ABQ institution.

A landmark of heroic proportions!
By Skyler, 7/14/05
The Frontier is a New Mexico landmark and every person who finds themselves visiting the fair city of Albuquerque should make their best effort to dine there. I've eaten at The Frontier countless times and it never seems like less than a religious experience every time! In addition to the fresh tortillas and heavenly cinnamin rolls, the tortilla soup is available 24/7 and will drive that hangover away. Who cares about sparse parking??? Most of the spaces are taken up by Albuquerque's finest (the late night eatery experts) anyway; making The Frontier a safe, affordable dive for those in need of sustenance.
