Frontier Restaurant

Description

For the last 20 years Frontier has slowly acquired the better part of the block facing Central Avenue across from the UNM campus. You will see study groups, people having coffee and lunch or the famous Frontier Cinnamon Roll, which is a huge, fresh sweet roll swimming in butter. The atmosphere is western and simple, with booths and tables. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at no particular time. New Mexican dishes, sandwiches, soups, stew and salads, chicken, ribs, fresh squeezed juice, sodas, tea and cappuccino are also offered.

Can't be afraid of bums
By ,
I absolutely love the Frontier. I am a student at UNM and have been eating there for about ten years. This is a great place to get food any time of the day. The only thing I would warn people about is that downtown and University area Albuquerque always have some interesting people lurking around. There are two bus stops immediately outside the Frontier and there are bound to be a few homeless people. I've never had any trouble from anyone but be prepared to be asked for some change, etc. If you're scared of homeless people, don't bother going. I tried to take friends from out of town and they locked the car doors and refused to get out. If you can handle the occasional bum, you'll love the Frontier

Different style of dining
By ,
Have a decent meal here if you don't mind an almost Mcdonald's style ordering and food pick-up experience.

Love the unique atmosphere, great breakfast burrito. Great place for students and families. Lots of menu items to chose from. My picky mom even enjoyed it!

Must try!
By ,
This is a FANTASTIC, unique restaurant. If you're in Albuquerque...you must make a visit here. No fancy white table linens - just excellent food. I went there for breakfast on the recommendation of a friend. You must try one of the Frontier's famous Honey Rolls, and then also a breakfast burrito. Some of the best food I had during my stay (at a price that can't be beat!). Don't hesitate...go try it if you're in the area!!!

Excellent UNM Ambiance
By ,
Amazing Place. Strange, true, but great! The orange juice is freshly squeezed - they have machine that dumps barrels of oranges by the minute - so you know it's fresh. YOU MUST HAVE THE SWEET ROLL - period. Also, the Western Hash Browns are great (green chile and cheese on top is standard). My meal is always the green chile stew, western hash browns, and a sweet roll. PARADISE! It is a hoky environment, ie employees wearing bandanas on their heads and aprons and stuff, cafeteria clanging of silverware, old picnic style tables, etc. BUT -- it certainly adds to the ambiance and ensures you are there to eat good grub. What I particularly enjoy is that everytime I am there, I ALWAYS see a local celebrity (newscasters, etc) -- this is a place where EVERYONE goes in Abq to have some good food at a cheap price. Great place to people watch. Have fun and fill your tummy without emptying your wallet.

It's O.K.
By ,
It wasn't as great a place as I had heard about. The food was o.k. I'd rather go to Golden Pride which is owned by the same family.
