Javelina Cantina Sedona

Description

A javelina is a creature similar to a wild boar - but there's certainly nothing "boar"ing about this lively, colorful cantina. Decorated in a bright Mexican motif, this restaurant is loud and filled with local charm. Choices are primarily Sonoran, with an Arizona accent. Combination plates of tacos, enchiladas and chimichangas are filling and flavorful. Lunch and dinner are served daily and it's Happy Hour from 3p-6p daily. Dinners are priced from USD8-16, Margaritas from USD5-7. Live music is featured on Saturday evenings.

We live in the Phoenix valley and have a second home in Sedona. Javelina Cantina is where the locals eat. Reasonable prices, fresh food that is hot and well prepared...and an environment that is clean, open, large and has terrific views. I don't understand the negative reviews....this place is great. There are a lot of really bad restraunts in Sedona that don't care if you come back; Javelina Cantina thrives on repeat business. EAT HERE!!!!!!!

We were here in February. Everything was wonderful! The drinks, the food, the service, everything! We recommended this restaurant to everyone we met. We will be returning to AZ. this summer with friends, and Javelina Cantina is a scheduled stop. Can't wait for the prickly pear marguarita!

A local from Sedona recommended this restaurant so I decided to check it out. I ate at the bar and "SHEENA" the bartender had absolutely know idea how to make a drink and on top of that she was extremely rude when I asked her to make it right even to the point of ignoring me for 10 minutes when I was trying to ask for my check. I wrote a comment card and gave it to the hostess who threw it right in the trash. Needless to say I will not be going back.

The Javelina Cantina has great Mexican food and you get pretty big portions. Their prices are about average for Sedona. The service is good. If you go there on a weekend in the evening, you may have a bit of a wait. The place can get rather busy.

My hubby and I have eaten at Javelina Cantina about a dozen times... without question, it's one of our favorite restaurants, if not our very favorite. We don't even live in Sedona but make the trip for such a wonderful dining experience. We've never had anything less than superb attention from the wait staff, with immediate delivery of drinks, chips, timely delivery of meals. I don't know what they do to the chips but they are the best I've ever had, and I'm surrounded by Mexican restaurants in Phoenix. Anyone who reports less than an excellent dining experience is simply an anomaly. Javelina Cantina has never disappointed us in any way. Get the fish tacos... both fried and grilled are the best you'll ever have.

One of our favorite restaurants but a bit pricey
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/08
We love bringing out-of-town visitors to Javelina Cantina because of the fun decor and good food - the chile rellanos, shrimp tacos, and fish tacos are great. Make sure you try the Prickly Pear Margarita. On a downside, the menu is definitely a bit expensive for basic Mexican food. Wonderful views from the terrace and Arizona room. Make sure to make reservations if you visit in the spring or fall, especially on the weekend, or you might have to wait.

Tried it once

Javelina Cantina was a dinner destination when my parents where visiting AZ. It was alright, but I wasn't overly the impressed. The service and prices were alright. The food was okay. It didn't strike me as anything I couldn't find at another Mexican restaurant.

Will eat there everytime I'm in Sedona
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
From the time I got out of my truck I was impressed. The location is amazing, food is the best in the area and the wait staff was impressive. I have been there with my fiance and with a large group of famil and friends and both times we were treated like the only ones in the restaraunt.

Real Mexican restaurants don't sell stuffed animals at the door!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/7/07
My first warning should've been the stuffed animals that were being sold right at the door...ball caps, and post cards...This is a tourist area. I read all the other reviews and thought "oh! most gave it 4 stars, it should be great!" The food was fine. Thats it...just fine. It was nothing spectacular. And if my boyfriend paid $17.95 for fajitas, you would think you would get better...The chips were out of a bag, salsa was from a jar (any REAL mexican place makes their own)...they DID have a chipotle sour cream dressing that went nicely with the fajitas but that was the only good thing I have to say about the food. This place certainly does not deserve 4 stars for food..or value for that matter...The ONLY reason why I gave it 3 stars, and not 2, was because of the service...the waitress, Pat, was very pleasant and not annoying at all. She gave just the right amount of time between each of her check ups. Keep in mind, that I have traveled the entire country (I have a lot of experience in dinning as an "out of towner"), I'm a bit of a food snob, and I also am not a fan of Sedona. I don't like the overall vibe...Its beautiful..but I'd rather be outside of the city than in it. If you want American food with a Mexican twist, this is the place for you. If you've been spoiled with real Mexican food, don't waste your time.

New Jersey opinion

There was nothing to dislike. We stumbled across Javelina Cantina on a cross country trip headed to S. Cal. It was the best "stumble" anyone could ask for.
