Dahl & Diluca Ristorante Italiano
Chefs Andrea DiLuca and Lisa Dahl serve up some of Sedona's finest Italian fare in a restaurant that is consistently chosen as Sedona's best European cuisine. Bright red tablecloths, lattice-backed chairs and saltillo tile floors complete the Mediterranean ambiance. On weekends, jazz piano music adds a festive touch. Pastas featured here include Piatto Milanese, tender linguine with spicy Italian sausage, mushrooms, peppers, onions and peas in aglio sauce. Veal, chicken and daily seafood specials are also well prepared. House wines are also available.
Dahl and DiLuca is an excellent Italian restaurant. The food is beautifully prepared and presented, and is delicious. I would highly recommend it for couples or groups of adults. It can be loud at times, but you don't mind once the food arrives.
My wife and I thougth the food was good, the service was OK and the live music was great, but when the staff started to bring out trays of dishes and set them up all aroudn us, we felt like no one cared that we were still eating. It was a terrible ending to an otherwise great dining experience. That's a shame, because I like Sedona and love to eat Italian food. They won't have our business again.
A big part of vacation is carefully choosing which restaurant will best suit the night. While in Sedona for a weekend away with a dear friend, we chose Dahl and Diluca. When I called to book a reservation, the agent put us down for a 7 o'clock reservation but never asked if we wanted to dine on the patio or in the main restauant. When we arrived, we were told that our reservation was booked for the patio, which in many restaurants in this lovely part of the country is not a problem as the views are spectacular. Here, though, the patio dining is adjacent to the main road through town and street noise is heard during dinner. In addition to street noise, mice have taken to nibbling on bread crumbs that are at the diners' feet. This made for an odd ambience as I hated to put my feet down for fear that a mouse would run across them. Also, the staff- the maitre d' and the server- were discourteous. I would not go back despite the good food.
This was out 3rd visit to Dahl & DeLuca's in July 2005. Having been there both in 2001 and 2002, we couldn't wait to have dinner there again. From the olive oil dip to start to the homemade pasta, I thought I could look outside and see the Vatican. The service is considerate without being overbearing and the restaurant absolutely Italian. One of the nicest things about the restaurant is that if you happen to still be a smoker, you can simply step out onto their patio and not be made to feel as if you are a convict. Going back again in January and can't wait to have dinner in their new restaurant which i believe is called the Cucina Rustica.
Being from the midwest, we expected good Italian food but certainly nothing like we were used to in the Chicago area! The food was simply superb! From the moment the water was served after seating until we finished with some absolutely incredible desserts, the service and food quality was second-to-none!
We are hoping to return to the Sedona area to specifically re-visit Dahl & DiLuca. We were in Sedona for six days and ate at many fine restaurants, but the food, service and the atmosphere placed Dahl & DiLuca far above everywhere else we ate during our 12 day vacation out west (including Las Vegas).
I am originally from Pennsylvania, about 2 hours from NYC and from Hazleton specifically (a mecca of Italians). Obviously, once I moved out to Phoenix, I realized how hard it is to find good Italian food on out West. Well, I can say without a doubt that Dahl and DeLuca is the BEST Italian food I have EVER had, even better than the excellent Italian I was used to back East. The first time I went we went to the 89A restaurante in West Sedona, sat outside - very romantic, w/ my fiance. I simply ordered the homemade linguini, and as soon as I tried it I thought it was the best pasta I have ever had. We were so impressed w/ the place, we decided to have our wedding rehearsal dinner there. The second time, we tried the Dahl and Deluca on rt. 179 on the way in to Sedona - excellent yet again. This time I tried a variety of things in order to narrow down a menu for the rehearsal dinner. The brucetta was outstanding, as well as the Olivos Fritos for appetizers (those are both going on our menu)... now, I am not a person who normally likes veal, mainly because of the texture, but I can honestly say that the Vitello Saltimboca (veal) was one of the best meat dishes I ever had, right up there w/ the Charascaria Rodizo (best meat in the world and it is in Brazil). I was extremely impressed, I know what I am getting at our rehearsal!!! Other than that, I am sure everything else is just as good, I obviously couldn't try everything, but I could not find anything bad to say about anything I tried! Excellent work Dahl and Deluca! Way to bring EXCELLENT Italian Cuisine out west. It is about time someone knows how to cook Italian out here ;)
My spouse and I consider Dahl & DiLuca our favorite restaurant. For our anniversary, we made a special trip to Sedona from the Phoenix area (nearly a two hour drive one-way) just to have dinner here!
The food is great. If you have a special request or want to make changes to certain items, they will gladly prepare your food as requested. The wine selection is extensive. The desserts are fantastic. If you eat around 7:00 PM or later, they have enjoyable live entertainment. I'd suggest making a reservation.
If you are a fan of great food, service, and ambiance, Dahl & DiLuca is a must for an outstanding dining experience.
