The Turquoise Room
In 1935, Mary Jane Colter was asked to design the private dining car for the Super Chief that was to run from Chicago to Los Angeles in 1936. It was named The Turquoise Room. The inaugural run started on Track 5 in Chicagoac2s Dearborn Station on May 12th 1936. acoeEllie,ac Eleanor Powell was named its first passenger and so began its illustrious flirtation with the Hollywood Stars of the day. The Turquoise Room was a favorite of the studio chiefs and stars of the day for their private dining pleasure. We hope you will enjoy your visit to our Turquoise Room. Also, consider railroad travel to our friendly restaurant as we are an Amtrak stop
I've stayed at the hotel and have enjoyed meals in the Turquoise Room for many years, and it is always a highlight for us. The restaurant has beautiful, authentic decor appropriate for one of the old Fred Harvey hotels, the service is friendly and efficient, and the food is the best. The chef always includes local, sustainable foods, cooked to perfection. We've never been disappointed!
Our car club has made a trip to the LaPosada hotel a must for the past four years. The opportunity to dine at the Turquoise Room has been one of the high points of our visit. The service has been excellent and the food always wonderful. The friendliness of staff is a real plus to us.
We look forward to another visit in 2010 to this wonderful hotel and its relaxing lawns and gardens.
from Flagstaff, the Tourquoise Room offers what Flagstaff doesn't...excellent food, good if not great service and a piece of history all rolled into one. Enjoyed the filet mignon just last night and it was wonderful. Southwestern flavors abound and the old hotel is a near perfect setting. Make sure you walk around a bit before or after dinner. Reservations are nearly a must on the weekend, dress is generally dressy casual. Expect to pay $65 for dinner for two not including alcohol and gratuity. Definitely a place to take out of town guests. Oh yes,...remember to go stand on the 'corner' !
