Rod's Steak House

Description

This casual, family-friendly spot is so well-known for its food and hospitality that it has been written up in the Houston (Texas) Chronicle . Steaks and slow-roasted prime rib are served by a friendly staff. Besides offering a good bet for Grade-A beef when you are in town, the menu includes chicken, ribs and seafood. A children's menu is also available. Rod's Special Margarita is the house specialty drink. Domino, the restaurant's bull mascot, is prevalent in the decor here, as are memorabilia and souvenirs from historic Route 66.

Definetly not the best. I agree with another reviewer about the cut of steaks and the Cod was over batterred. Although we paid by credit cards, the european couple in our party , believed that gratuity was included, besides they were not very satisfied with their order. The waiter followed them outsided and stated that gratuity was mandatory embarassing not only this couple but the rest of the party. Substantial gratuity was left by the other couple.

We stopped at Rod's on our last trip to AZ. We saw their sign coming in from Grand Canyon, and our motel was only a few blocks away. We saw their ad in the local Williams magazine and we thought to give Rod's a try. We were very pleasantly surprised by their level of service, their soup (beef and pea soup) was delicious, and our steaks were cooked perfectly. Our baked potatoes were done to our complete satisfaction, and the price was right. Though not a fancy place, Rod's has a lot of history and Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez are carrying on the tradition at Rod's by serving excellent food with excellent service.

Came in for a late night dinner at 8:30 pm on 9/20/2010 while staying over for our Grand Canyon Railway tour the next day, with a party of 6 people. We were seated right away, but 6 would probably normally be a fairly large party for this restaurant any other day as the restaurant is small. After our drink order was taken, we were served the most delicious rolls with honey and butter! Salads were then served; they had a great chunky and thick bleu cheese dressing. They also have a tomato-garlic dressing for a more healthy choice. Everyone order a steak and everyone was extremely happy with their dinner. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib and it was excellent!!! So happy we ordered the prime rib! The baked potatoes were soooo good. Very soft on the inside and cooked perfectly. The chives and butter were served mixed together. They have several dessert but we were told that only the cherry and apple pie were homemade. We ordered the apple pie, and it was delicious. Overall, an excellent experience, and we are so so happy that we ended up at Rod's on a whim. We will definitely go back when we visit Williams again.

Rod's Steak House, our visit on 10/10/2009 was as follows: The service was excellent, the best restaurant Steak that I have had in years (Pinnacle Peak) had been my formal favorite. The Food was excellent! I was envious of my husband for he ordered the pinto bean soup, I had ordered salad, wonderful buttermilk ranch dressing and the fabulous yeast rolls.. His soup had great flavor, the beans were perfectly cooked, not over done. Then our main course arrived. We had both order the Club Steak, cooked to our order, tender and full flavored. My husband had french fries, cooked just the way we love them, crispy on the out side and fluffy on the inside, my baked potato was the best restaurant potato in years with plenty of butter and sour cream chives as well. We will make this our regular stop as we venture through the area.

Husband and I dined at Rod's Steak House on September 24, 2009 - the meal and the service left us with a very bad taste in our mouths. I had ordered their House Specialty Steak (sugar coated) was very tough and bad - husband had T-bone it was iffy at the least. Server took back my steak told him I would order something else but he never did bring me another menu! Rolls --- microwaved --- any idiot server should know this makes them tough. Now !! how about this for class - ordered a glass of merlot wine was served in a single plastic wine bottle along with a wine glass had to pour it myself - what a concept. Sever needs an attitude and personality adjustment - in these trying times when jobs are tough and you have people willing to pay for good food and service you would think that they would try harder. I have owned and managed restaurants for years and would never along any customers to leave an establishment feeling this emotional upset about a meal and services as we where. Word of mouth has always been the best form of advertisement - Mr and Mrs Sanchez should be paying more attention to their business and staff.

Don't go there!!!! Steaks tasted like Charcoal lighter fluid & burnt meat. After we sent it back the 2nd set of steaks came out charred with raw center & tough. Waiter was rude, didn't apologize for the sorry food, no discount was given. If you want to waste your money, just set it on fire, it will be a better experience than going to Rod's Steak House. If Rod knew what kind of slop they give you these days he'd turn over in his grave. Rating FFFFFF-----------!

Best steak I have had in the US. Cooked to perfection. Rare was rare, medium-rare was medium-rare and medium was medium. Baked potato was excellent, fries good and the pinto bean soup delcious.
