This casual, family-friendly spot is so well-known for its food and hospitality that it has been written up in the Houston (Texas) Chronicle . Steaks and slow-roasted prime rib are served by a friendly staff. Besides offering a good bet for Grade-A beef when you are in town, the menu includes chicken, ribs and seafood. A children's menu is also available. Rod's Special Margarita is the house specialty drink. Domino, the restaurant's bull mascot, is prevalent in the decor here, as are memorabilia and souvenirs from historic Route 66.

12 reviews for Rod's Steak House
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/06/10
FOUR STARS!! Reading the reviews before our Polar Express trip on 12/28/09 we had Rod's as our third pick. But as luck would have it we went to it first. At 4pm the restuarant was empty... a bad sign. We looked at the Menu and thought we should leave as we have 3 kids 17, 11 & 10, the menus were not very informational ie; "Filet Mignon-thick & juicy". Kids menu had very poor "school lunch" appeal. Believe it or not no burgers. We all ordered from the regular adult menu. Then we stopped complaining! The Trout was awesome, biscuits w/butter & honey were delictable, the sirloin ka-bob, sirloin steak, and T-bone were just... thick & juicy! We were so into sampling everyone's meal that we didn't notice the line in the lobby to get in. It was 4:45 pm on a Monday! The family recommends the Trout, ka-bob (which is huge), and for the hamburger lovers - The Sirloin Steak!

Rod's Steak House, our visit on 10/10/2009 was as follows: The service was excellent, the best restaurant Steak that I have had in years (Pinnacle Peak) had been my formal favorite. The Food was excellent! I was envious of my husband for he ordered the pinto bean soup, I had ordered salad, wonderful buttermilk ranch dressing and the fabulous yeast rolls.. His soup had great flavor, the beans were perfectly cooked, not over done. Then our main course arrived. We had both order the Club Steak, cooked to our order, tender and full flavored. My husband had french fries, cooked just the way we love them, crispy on the out side and fluffy on the inside, my baked potato was the best restaurant potato in years with plenty of butter and sour cream chives as well. We will make this our regular stop as we venture through the area.

Husband and I dined at Rod's Steak House on September 24, 2009 - the meal and the service left us with a very bad taste in our mouths. I had ordered their House Specialty Steak (sugar coated) was very tough and bad - husband had T-bone it was iffy at the least. Server took back my steak told him I would order something else but he never did bring me another menu! Rolls --- microwaved --- any idiot server should know this makes them tough. Now !! how about this for class - ordered a glass of merlot wine was served in a single plastic wine bottle along with a wine glass had to pour it myself - what a concept. Sever needs an attitude and personality adjustment - in these trying times when jobs are tough and you have people willing to pay for good food and service you would think that they would try harder. I have owned and managed restaurants for years and would never along any customers to leave an establishment feeling this emotional upset about a meal and services as we where. Word of mouth has always been the best form of advertisement - Mr and Mrs Sanchez should be paying more attention to their business and staff.

Don't go there!!!! Steaks tasted like Charcoal lighter fluid & burnt meat. After we sent it back the 2nd set of steaks came out charred with raw center & tough. Waiter was rude, didn't apologize for the sorry food, no discount was given. If you want to waste your money, just set it on fire, it will be a better experience than going to Rod's Steak House. If Rod knew what kind of slop they give you these days he'd turn over in his grave. Rating FFFFFF-----------!

This place only thinks it's a steakhouse. I visited Rod's with a party of three on August 7, 2008. Each of us ordered Rod's "charred steak" ($20), but we were brought steaks of significantly different sizes. The smallest steak, which was very small, had not been trimmed of fat. The largest steak was thick on one side and tapered off to thin on the other. All of the steaks were bland, our glasses were allowed to run dry without us ever being asked if we wanted a refill, and a second order of rolls (we had to have something to eat) which was ordered at the beginning of the meal was not delivered to our table until after we were finished eating. -- The three of us left after paying the $71 and unanimously agreed that this was one of the worst places we'd ever stopped to eat.

Best steak I have had in the US. Cooked to perfection. Rare was rare, medium-rare was medium-rare and medium was medium. Baked potato was excellent, fries good and the pinto bean soup delcious.

I went to Rod's Steak House with my girlfriend as part of a weekend trip to Williams on 12/16, and boy were we sorry. This blond haired waiter was all pissed off about something, cussing at the cashier, who obviously had difficulty with the English language. There was us and another table of 4 in the whole place, so I don't know what he was all stressed about or why the food took so long to arrive. When the Prime Rib arrived it was like rubber and my potato was over cooked. My girlfriend ordered the ribs and they weren't any better. What little meat there was on the bone, it was dried like beef jerky and the BBQ sauce was burned onto it. Needless to say, we only took a few bites and that was it. We ended up not paying for anything. This place needs to be shut down. Everything was horrible. I wish I would have read the reviews before going there. The sign should be changed from World Famous to World Infamous. As far as fine dining, maybe they mean for rats. That food is nowhere near worth the twenty dollars a plate they charge.

My family dined at Rod’s Steak House (of the damned) on December 18th 2007. There was only one server and he had a poor, unprofessional attitude. I should have realized an issue when there were only three tables filled during dinner hour. The rolls were stale, the coffee was cold, the soup was too salty. We ordered steaks and BBQ ribs. The ribs were dry, like they have been sitting under a heat lamp too long. My steak which was a top sirloin, was chewy, and the potatoes were overcooked. My three children had the chicken tenders - as that is their favorite. Yet they took a few bites and all said it was yucky and refused to eat any more even though they were hungry from the drive up from Surprise. For the $20 a plate cost; I expected much higher standards than this. When I complained to the cashier, the waiter started cussing and then stormed off. I have had better food and service from Denny’s - and I hate Denny’s. Chef Ramsay, where are you? Any traveler who visits Williams Arizona is best advised to eat at the McDonald’s or Jack in the Box in town then suffer at Rod’s.

We were not impressed with this place. The food was okay but overpriced for the cut's we got. Somewhat chewy too. Nice decor but a bit noisey. We ate there during our annual trek to ride the Polar Express.

0 Thumbs Up

If you are interested in salad and potatoes this is the place for you. The salad was crisp and potatoes were done well. However, it is a steak house and it didn't live up to it expectations. It says one the menu, "the best steaks attainable", well i guess that not many suppliers ship to Williams. Everyone at our table of 5 who had steak was dissapointed with the result. The prime rib was very chewy and the other steaks were not flavorful. The ambiance was of a typical southwestern rustic Steakhouse. I would not recommend going.
