Over time the food has gone down hill. My family and I have eaten here 4-5 times in the past and each time that we go the food has gotten a little worse. The service used to be wonderful, it was handled by a single server but this last time that we went there was a new server on that really could care less about her tables, instead cared to flirt with someone at the bar. I really wish the old server would come back cause she actually cared.
I've been a Chef for 14 years and this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The food came out slow, 45 minutes for our food when there were 7 tables in the establishment.
One of the four people in our party, had Steak and Shrimp for $20: there were 3 shrimp and a steak that was so tough he could barely cut it with a steak knife. When the server was told about this her only response was sorry, not getting the owner not trying to make the situation correct. 2 other people in our party had the daily special of all your can eat beef ribs, the first batch was awful, they were lukewarm at best, more fat than beef and trying to get more was like trying to pull teeth from the server. The second batch of beef ribs that came out were a little more tender, had better flavor and were enjoyable. The fourth person in our party had the sampler platter, it was a sampler of all the different kinds of BBQ that is in the establishment, it consisted of a quarter chicken, 2 strips of brisket( don't know if I would really call it brisket), a very small portion of pulled pork, 3 pork ribs and 2 beef ribs. I remember seeing this a couple of times in the past at other peoples tables and it looked alot more appetizing. Being the fourth person at this table and getting the sampler I wasn't satisfied. The portions were small, and I got sick from one of the many items on it.
Sorry, but I will NOT recommend this restaurant to my friends anymore, at one time I was telling people that they had good food and good service but I have been proven wrong. I'm sorry to see that Kaisers West has completely gone down hill since switching its name to Nicks on the west side. The food and the service are both horrible.
This place is a fantastic place to go for breakfast - we haven't had lunch or dinner there yet so I can't speak for other meals.
I had the Breakfast Quesadilla which I would definitely order again - and again - it was really good. It was huge and I couldn't finish it. My husband had a Choriso Breakfast Burrito which seemed more like seasoned taco meat but it was very good and also very large. Both dishes came with refried black beans which were very tasty and went very well. They also both came with their homemade salsa which was exceptional. And we know salsas. (I could've used a bigger portion because it was so good!)
The coffee was frequently refilled - our only criticism was it was a bit weak. But the food and service made up for it. Our waittress was great as was the friendly coffee refiller - who was cheerful and fun!
We will definitely go back!!!
