I am a foodie - and eat all over the world in addition to cooking gourmet meals for friends. Rene is one of my top places. My parents live hundreds of miles from me and we meet at Rene for food and wine. Tourists do eat there who do not grasp the concept of enjoying a multi-course meal of exciting flavors and different wines and have a different view of food and French dining - hence their reviews. If you appreciate food - this is the place - Tlaauepaque salad is great, the lamb, and a ton of vegetarian options. Few places can do tuna tartare as Rene does and Mushrooms Neptune are a definite must have. When available, stop looking at the menu and order the venison with whiskey juniper sauce. I have friends who I have taken there you remember two things about Sedona - hiking and lunch/dinner at Rene. I like meat rare, they always handle that. They are always willing to work with any party. I've walked in last moment and with a smile can always get a table next to a favorite painting in the restaurant or on the patio to enjoy Sedona's outdoors. Do not stop eating until you have had the passion fruit panna cotta with blueberry rum sauce. I have taken groups of 2 and 12 in there and it is always a great time with staff that understand how to serve people. Deborah is someone who wants her place to be great and it is so good that I put it ahead of the finest in San Francisco, Chicago, Buenos Aries and Santiago. Sedona is blessed to have this place.

By not gonna go back, 8/29/10
We ate at the Restaurant on our wedding anniversay. They also had a wedding party that night and it took 40 minutes just for our appetizers after we sat at the table 10-15 minutes before our server came by to even say hi ! Then it took an additional hour for our main course. Our food was not worth that wait! If they are going to book big parties make sure that other customers with reservations are served in a timely manner,We wont be back! The food was not worth our money or time spent waiting..Staff wasn't all that friendly as they were working the job of three people...We so hoped for much better than we received!!!!

Wedding Perfect
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/23/09
yum! This restaurant is very tasty! My (now) husband and I were planning our wedding up at Tlaquepaque, and we decided to look into Rene for our catering needs. The food was exquisite, and we were very pleased with the staff and management! Whenever we go up to Sedona, you can bet, we will be at Rene for lunch!

I have the same thing everytime I have been to Rene's. The miso steak salad is so good that I can't stop myself from reordering it the next time. Hopefully, someday I will expand my horizons, but what's the rush?

Enjoyed it but hadn't realized I had been there before
By From Sedona, AZ, 7/13/07
We were invited to lunch by a business associate who suggested Rene's. He had asked if we had ever been there before and we replied no because we thought we hadn't. When we got there we both had realized we were there once before while on vacation in Sedona. Now were locals. For some reason back then it did not impress us enough to remember it. The second time around was pleasant. The food was really good! We haven't had a chance to go back but when we discuss where we should go it does come up in conversation to atleast try again in the near future.

Horrible Service
By RachelB, 7/7/07
This resturaunt was highly recommended by clients of mine who enjoy good food, good wine, & are constantly travelling but we were absolutely horrified by the service we received. I made reservations about a month ahead & we were greeted luke warm, it took about 5 minutes or longer to get menus which we had to flag down the hostess to even get them & to order a before dinner drink was next to impossible. I saw the bus boy more than I saw our waiter who did not greet us for at least 10-15 minutes. It's only saving grace was the food itself but unfortunately we received better serve at the local diner for breakfast after ballooning one morning & paid about 1/16th of the price. I have been in the customer service business for over 15 years & run a million dollar plus salon & spa in Manhattan so I have some notion on how I should be treated. I am not a high maintenance person & do not like to "act" like my demanding, obnoxious clients can get but I expect to be treated nicely & acknowledged. I have been dining out for a long time & do so more often then I probably should & this is the 1st time I have ever left a resturaunt leaving under a 15% tip, not having more than 1 drink, & not having dessert & coffee. We should have gone with our 1st instinct & walked out!

I would easily recommend this place
By Robert S, 4/30/07
We had just gotten into Sedona after a long flight and then drive from PHX. We checked into our hotel and started to wonder around. Luckily we happened onto this restaurant with a french cafe setting. DRINK was a little on the expensive side. $9 for a glass of Merlot. FOOD was some of the best I have ever had. We had the stuffed mushrooms with lobster and it was great (I dont eat seafood and I liked it). Wife had the Dover Sole and she loved it. Once again I thought it was very good and I do not eat seafood. I had the Filet Mingon and I would put it in the top 3 filets I have ever had. SERVICE was as good as you could ask for. AMBIANCE is the only area where this place could benifit from. My chair was a broken and the seat kept seperating from the rest of the chair and it was just not as romantic to me (No soaring views or anything like that.) VALUE I would love to give this place a 5 here but I cannot. Our bill was $105 with 2 glasses of wine, an app, and the entrees. I think the wine was a little expensive but it would not stop me from going back. It was great. If a Sedona restaurant could offer that food and service with views of the Red Rocks then I would think about going somewhere else next time.

Be Careful If It Rains!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/23/07
When making patio seating reservations 1 month in advance, be certain to check the extended weather forcast, if cold and rainy, there is no budging on trying to seat you inside unless you want to seat in the middle of the bar area at a postage stamp table. April 21, 2007, we had hoped to enjoy our anniversary at Rene's. We arrived, appropriately dressed, saw the patio was not in use except by smoking employees, so we politely and quietly asked if we could sit inside because of the weather. The "hostess" of the day was rude, said we made the outside reservation and we had to live with it, unless we wanted that small table. Other tables were empty of customers. She was rude and offered no reasonable alternative . I said perhaps we should try somewhere else. The "hostess" came around from her "podium" and open the exit door and said goodbye. We left as quietly as we arrived, admired the surroundings, but flabbergasted with the "service" Be AWARE!!

Romace and Great Food
By Rev, 3/7/07
We had dinner at Rene's to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary. Even though ours is an alternative marriage unrecognized in most state of the USA, we were treated like any other couple celebrating their marriage, maybe better. The food was excellent and we enjoyed ourselves.

It seems like...
By Daniel, 12/29/06
...you'll have to travel at least 50 miles outside of Flagstaff to get the service and food you deserve. Rene's was a pleasant surprise for lunch just two days ago. Service was excellant and totally unassuming. Food was above average and the ambiance very, very nice. Expect to spend $50-$60 for lunch for four not counting gratuity. We will be making dinner reservations soon!
