I always like trying the non-chain places when I travel. Yesterday I tried Calico's. It was Sunday around 11am. I opted for the Breakfast Buffet since there was no other breakfast on the menu. I love Biscuts and Gravy but these were unedible. The gravy had no taste what-so-ever. The rolls were stale. If it is the end of the day for the bar, shut it down. I did not even finish one plate, and was not asked once whether everything was ok. The bathroom was also very dark and did not smell clean. I may have got them on a bad day--with the other reviews I have read on the place, but I had to let any would-by traveler know.
Travel often between Las Vegas and Phoenix. I always look forward to stopping at Calico's. Food is always good, service makes you feel welcome and at home. It's comfort food on the road. I'm hooked on their corn beef hash for breakfast or the patty melt for lunch. My family always enjoys the large menu and home style cooking.
I love Calico's. The restaurant is large and nicely decorated with local artist paintings for sale.
The food is home made for the most part. Sandwiches have always been delicious and the chili size is huge. The dinner fish was large and excellent.
The only thing I don't care for is the salad bar which I find to small, so I have never ordered it.
Calico's is one of my very favorites and I always recommend it to people that ask where to go eat.
My mom and I always go to Calico's!!! We don't live very far away so when we don't want to cook we go there. My mom, dad, & I have been going ever since I was about 6 now 14. Calico's is GREAT now they call me by my first name and they pretty much know what i order.
