My girlfriend and I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant last evening. We have both dined there quite a few times in the past, and often bring our families when they are in Flagstaff. Because it was Tuesday night, we each ordered a #1 combo. We noticed that the prices had gone up on the new menu, but that they were no longer charging extra for shrimp. So we both ordered shrimp for our tacos and enchiladas.
It was a very rude awakening, then, to see on our check that we had been charged $2 extra for shrimp. When we brought this to the server's attention, her response was "Oh, I thought you were locals, I thought you knew."
Yes, I know how to read, and the old menus said there was an extra charge, and the new menus do not. Since when has it been OK to tack hidden charges on a guest's bill? When we protested further, she said she was not allowed to change it, "But you're still getting a pretty good deal." Unbelievable.
That is not the point. $2 is not the point. The point is that you can't just add phantom charges to someone's bill without it being on the menu or the server mentioning it upon taking the order. And if a customer raises the issue, all you're going to do is essentially say "Tough..." ? Wow. That's customer service.
The food tastes fine at this restaurant, but be sure you double-check the cost of what you are ordering, and be sure to give your check a good reading before you plunk down the plastic.
