Brandy's

Description

A frequent winner of "best breakfast" and "best desserts" awards locally, this strip-mall cafe is a comfortable place to relax with a specialty coffee. Start the day with a freshly cooked breakfast or traditional European-style pastry. The Tucson Daily Citizen once referred to it as "Flagstaff's best kept secret," but we're letting the word out. Hearty breakfasts include unique offerings like trout and eggs, homemade Swedish oat pancakes and the house special, Eggs Brandy (poached eggs on a bagel, topped with Hollandaise sauce). Service is friendly and attentive, and a tempting display of baked goods gives the place a homey feel.

Plain awful. Don't know why someone from the food network would go here. There are so many better places in Flagstaff than this place! The service is awful, our server was too busy socializing than actually taking our order correctly or bringing what we asked for and the food was super bland. Plus the 'awesome' chef couldn't make a grilled chicken sandwich right!! I won't ever go there again. Waste of money!!!

I keep forgetting this place because it's off my beaten track. Whenever I'm in this part of town I tend to go to Salsa Brava. As for breakfast, well, Crown Railroad has the best omelettes in town, yet they never get the votes for Flag Best. Having said that, I think the menu here is quite ok and this place should not be ignored. Ironically, the one real complaint I have is about the bread they serve with dinner. They may bake it themselves, but they microwave it before serving. And they do it badly. I'm not joking, it was soggy on one side and tough as leather on the other. They seriously need to learn a lesson from Busters or Outback on how not to abuse your bread.

The portion size is above average although the restaurant location can use some work, not to mention, the size of the restaurant (after 5 p.m. is it hard to find a seat?)

We went two days ago based on recommendations from a family member. The wait staff was very friendly and kept refills coming on a busy morning. The food however left a lot to be desired. The breakfast potatoes were mealy, heavy on paprika, and lacking in flavor. The benedict dishes consisted of tough english muffins, over cooked poached eggs, and hollandaise that was anything but. In addition, the meals were served lukewarm. The staff was great, unfortunately even they couldn't overcome a lackluster meal.

I don't know how Brandy's gets Best of Flagstaff votes...I suspect, like many things in Flagstaff, when you've never been anywhere else, you don't know what you're missing. Brandy's is dingy at best. The food is cheaply prepared, often greasy, and badly presented. The food doesn't live up to the menu descriptions, and is not nearly as good as pouring yourself a bowl of cereal at home. If you want a better breakfast, get a bagel sandwich at Biffs, some fresh OJ at Macy's, and walk to Wheeler Park for a picnic. You'll have quality food and a nice atmosphere for half the price of a mediocre, noisy breakfast at Brandy's.

Eh.....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/2/07
It's mediocre (flagstaff mediocre, which equates to below average)...I enjoy eggs benedicts, but their english muffin is always stale, tastes like it was heated in the microwave. The spinach that came with mine was from a can, yuck! I like the service, friendly. Can you please improve on those eggs benedicts. Unlike those snobs who didn't like the decore, i find it rather soothing.

Brandy's is a great local favorite
By Lincoln, 5/6/07
The service is excellent...we usually go from breakfast. We found this place when the other breakfast place that we go to started slacking on the service (cafe espress). The servers are very attentive with the coffee. The food is out of this world. Pancakes are huge. It doesn't have the quaint downtown location, but it is well worth the trip. A local favorite.

one of the best Flagstaff has to offer
By Zach, 8/14/06
In a town like Flagstaff, you'd expect to find great food everywhere. Not true. There's very few half way decent places to go. Brandy's is one of a handful of restaurants in Flagstaff that I will eat at. Everyone's friendly and the food is pretty darn good.

One of the best meals in Flagstaff!
I don't know what the lady in the previous review is talking about. Maybe she enjoys Denny's or McDonalds for breakfast. Yes, it's smaller (it's no Cracker Barrel) I've been living in Flagstaff for 13 years and Brandy's is by far one of the best restaurants in town. Being from New York City originally (so I think I know good food) I find the food compares to some great places there. $7.95 for a burrito is very very reasonable especially for the size of the plate. Not to mention the burritos are fantastic. They even have asparagus and broccoli that you can throw in them. My two favorite things. And you can get hollandaise sauce on top. Yum!!!!! The art on the walls change month to month. It's fun. What's great about it is it's all local Flagstaff artists. Some months they even have art on the wall for donation like to Lou Corps (a group home for young adults with disabilities---I work there). The art is almost always wonderful. and like good art sometimes out of my price range. Just because you can't afford shouldn't mean you have the right to talk crap. And no Brandy's is not a five star dining experience. Nor do they ever advertise that they are. It's a very casual fun dining experince. The waiters and waitresses are so attentive and friendly everyday you go there. If you live in Flagstaff, or are just travelling through, you should stop in. You just can't do better. I guess if you go to IHOP a lot, it may not be your style. But if you love great mom and pop restaurants then this is for you.

Great Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/19/06
Excellent breakfasts! They make great breakfasts, the eggs and breakfast potatoes are what drew me in, but I think they have the best coffee in town...try the Aloha Mocha! They also have a really friendly staff, the cook came out and talked to us to see how our meal tasted and our server Scott was really personable. This place is definitely a must experience restaurant.
