I have only lived here for 16 months but of all the Mexican places that I have been, this is the BEST. Always good service, the hot food is hot (heat) and the cold is cold. Would eat there more often however I'm trying to watch my weight. From a Bengals fan to a Cardinals fan, Thank You.

I agree, La Fonda has the best Mexican Food in Flagstaff. I will be leaving Arizona and I am going to miss the very good food at this restaurant. I have always found the wait staff to be exceedingly pleasant and attentive and the restaurant is always clean. Thank you for your very good food and excellent hot sauce.

My extended family and I have all been going to La Fonda since at least 1960, and it's THE best Mexican food restaurant in Flagstaff! Their peppery hot sauce (served in a plastic bottle...ha ha!) is the finest I've ever tasted. I always get a combo plate--taco, enchilada, tamale, beans, rice, & flour tortilla (or sopapilla), and hubby loves their chimichangas. This family-owned eatery has been around Flagstaff since the '50's, and is a huge favorite among the locals. This place is very, very down-home, and as such, probably insults the sensitivities of wealthier folks. Too bad! We all love it and hope La Fonda never changes a thing. You get lots of fabulous food for a very reasonable price. Some of the commenters on this forum have said that this place is dirty. Really? I've always found it to be very clean and am not aware of anyone ever getting ill after eating here...not in the 50-odd years they've been feeding us. Maybe some of you gringos (I'm also a gringo, so I can say that) just can't take the manly hot sauce. It gives your tummy an owie. Ha ha! Just kidding! Now I've made myself hungry thinking about the delicious food at La Fonda. I'm off to go get me some!!

My friends and I ate at LaFonda's on Friday night (08/14/09) before going on a weekend trip in the pines. We all shared a large dish. ALL of us got deathly sick in the middle of the night. I have NEVER been this sick before!!!! I had cold sweats and major diarhea for 24 hours!!! It was extremely painful and awful!!!! All of us were so sick that our weekend was majorly hampered because of it! We KNOW for a fact that it was LaFonda's food because we all shared the same dish and all were sick. We will NEVER eat there again and I am currently looking for other ways to report them. I believe that they do NOT have healthy food sanitation/conditions in their restaurant. Beware!!!

The place was busy on a Saturday afternoon, filled with locals, college students, and touristas from the valley; but no flies. Short 10 minute wait, good service. The chicken burritos were very good and the instant rice had a nice flavor. The refried beans were seasoned well so I couldn’t tell whether they were Old El Paso or Rosarita. Tacos were a little tough but the meat paste molded in the bottom of the shell was tasty. Interesting experience; but I think we’ll go somewhere else next time.
