My extended family and I have all been going to La Fonda since at least 1960, and it's THE best Mexican food restaurant in Flagstaff!
Their peppery hot sauce (served in a plastic bottle...ha ha!) is the finest I've ever tasted. I always get a combo plate--taco, enchilada, tamale, beans, rice, & flour tortilla (or sopapilla), and hubby loves their chimichangas.
This family-owned eatery has been around Flagstaff since the '50's, and is a huge favorite among the locals.
This place is very, very down-home, and as such, probably insults the sensitivities of wealthier folks. Too bad! We all love it and hope La Fonda never changes a thing. You get lots of fabulous food for a very reasonable price.
Some of the commenters on this forum have said that this place is dirty. Really? I've always found it to be very clean and am not aware of anyone ever getting ill after eating here...not in the 50-odd years they've been feeding us.
Maybe some of you gringos (I'm also a gringo, so I can say that) just can't take the manly hot sauce. It gives your tummy an owie. Ha ha! Just kidding!
Now I've made myself hungry thinking about the delicious food at La Fonda. I'm off to go get me some!!
