Char's Thai Restaurant
When it comes to Thai food, there aren't a great many options in Tucson. This cute, clean and casual place satisfies your Southeast Asian cravings with traditional Thai dishes. It features a full spectrum of curries and noodle dishes. You'll find everything from a soul-satisfying hot and sour soup to roast duck. Singha, or other Asian beers work well with the spiced-to-your liking cuisine.
I travel all over the country and this has to be one of the best Thai resaurants I've ever been to. The satay was great, the egg roll was fantastic, and the panang was very good as well. My only complaint is that they charge for soda refills. If you love Thai and you're in Tucson, GO!!! 'nuff said :)
I enjoy this restaurnat. They serve many authentic thai dishes and beverages. I highly recommend any of their soup and the Pinneapple fried rice, which is served in a carved out pinnapple. The only dissapointing thing is that when I ordered it for take out, I did not get the fried rice in a pinnapple.
Solid Thai goodness.
Not super upscale decor, but very tasty. The Pla chu chi (cod w/ yellow curry) ROCKS, as does the yummy, if very rich, red curry duck. The Tom Yum is always hot and good with lots of tasty lumber-like hunks of spice.
Restaurants in Tucson tend to come and go, but these guys have been in the same place for over 20 years. I have eaten and taken out from Char's 50 times or more in that time, and i keep coming back.
This is THE best lunch deal in town! Good price, GREAT food and we've never had any bad or non existant service in the 5+ years of going here.
In my opinion, better than Karuna's, a little better than Bai Thong, & cheaper than China Thai.
From a vegan who loves Thai food - Char Thai is the best one in town, and I've been a regular customer for years. The food is consistently delicious, and the prices are reasonable. They have a great selection of vegan choices (warning: I'm not sure if they use fish paste or any other hidden non-vegan ingredients). All of the vegan options are delicious, and my favorites are Tom Yum Soup (ask for it with no shrimp), Lad Na (w/broccoli & tofu), Yellow Curry (w/tofu), and Panang Curry (w/tofu).
For Tucson Thai food, Char Thai is probably your best bet. The prices are reasonable and the portions are ample. This is a place you go to enjoy the food, not the scenery. The decoration and layout is cheesy to say the least. The restaurant looks as though it was designed by shopping at garage sales, from kitten and puppy placemats to strange sci-fi looking paintings on the wall.
Don't expect great service either. Frequently our experience has that the staff is quite unfriendly and difficult to get assistance. Even so, the food rocks, so it's worth visiting at least once.
