Saga Sushi

Description

There's no other restaurant in Tucson where you can satisfy a craving for sushi and shrimp tostados at the same place and time. Mexican-influenced Japanese cuisine is served with panache by a staff that is both friendly and efficient; the seafood is always fresh. The decor is contemporary Japanese, light and clean. Don buri, chiles, sushi rolls, and the popular greppa (a fish and shrimp dish served with fresh vegetables) are some of the most popular menu selections. The Canaroles a la Diabla, (shrimp with hot sauce), will most likely bring tears to your eyes.

SUSHI SAGE 2011 I have been going to Sushi Saga since it opened IT USE TO BE TOP NOTCH, the Sushi is excellent, the Mussels are to die (they are the best in town) for with eels sauce (I always spend ($25-$50). This business also has another Sushi restaurant in Hermosillo, Mexico which this family runs that includes an Japanese Born Yoshi (father), and wife, (ex-wife)whom is Hispanic, and a daughter and they all know how to make Sushi. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THIS RESTAURANT, FOOD, AND DRINKS! I have sent lots of customers to them. It says they are open on Sundays, but hey when you get there SURPRISE THERE NOT OPEN LIKE TODAY! SOME SUNDAYS! You got to guess which Sunday. This is the only place I know of that you can get Sushi and have a Michelata (Mexican beer with lime, clamato, spices with a salted rim frozen glass.) The last time before this adventure I had one and it was horrible and watered down I should of realized things were going bad then. Food was still great! Bad service, dirty then too, but still I tried again!!! What this place is LACKING is a WOMAN'S TOUCH since I rarely see the other family members! (NOT ONE WOMAN WORKING last night) I took a friend in last night to have Green Mussels since I introduced her to them she LOVES them as I do. 1st off we walk in to the whole Sushi counter DIRTY and sticky, every area! Then they bring the plates, chopsticks and put it right there in the goo, I had to ask them to clean the counter please, or give me the towel!!!! We ordered our Green mussels with Leo (HE IS THE BEST SUSHI CHEF). The waiter (MALE) came out to bring our sodas and dumped them all over me from the neck down to my shoes and socks, I was drenched and dripping! He was embarrassed as was I! He said he was sorry, (OK) and new(OK), and things sometimes happen (WHAT) I WAS NOT OFFERED A TOWEL, NOT EVEN A PAPER TOWEL! He did start cleaning the floor and counter though! I was working driving a $20,000 12 passenger van and had a pick up in 1 hr. at the Westward Look. I could not get this COKE all over the van, So I HAD TO ASK Leo to give me 1/2 his roll of paper towels to put on my seat cause I chose to leave at that point. YOSHI (THE OWNER???) SITTING RIGHT THERE BEHIND THE DAMN COUNTER, IGNORING WHAT HAD HAPPEN. THAT IS BULL***T! Then they handed me my bill minus the sodas (thank God the syrup was low) I PAID MY BILL IN FULL AND STUCK TO THE FLOOR WITH EVERY STEP AS I EXITED! NICE I will never recommend this Sushi bar to anyone ever again, I think it will not last to much longer with all the really GOOD places around town now. Sushi Hama has always been excellent ($19.95 all u can eat), as well as Sushi Cho (they have $1.00 sushi Sunday-Thursday 4-6pm and that's where I'm going. They also make a mean scallop dynamite. YOSHI, I am finally disgusted and had enough, get yourself together, customers will not come back! You might need that guy on TV to show you the way back to making your business a good one, that customers will return too. Leo you are an amazing Sushi Chef you could work anywhere!

I Love this place!!! Great sushi. My Favorite is the Mario's roll. It's a nice comfy environment to eat at. People are nice and attentive. I never really liked sushi until I tried this place.

My wife and I love this place ! I proposed to my wife several years ago so Sushi Saga will always be memorable for us. Highly recommend the shrimp tacos. Hugh selection of sushi dishes at a very reasonable price.

Tacos & Sushi
By Viejo, 12/2/06
Want a place with friendly staff, good food and an eclectic menu? This is it. Oh and did I mention very reasonable prices? Definitely the best fish tacos in town and a wide variety of sushi for all tastes. Great place to get a quick meal that includes Miso soup, edamame and 2 tacos or a sushi mini roll for under six bucks.

I loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/25/06
I not a big fan of sushi, but when my friends took me there i was speechless, the athmosphere was so relaxed and the service was really good, and now my favorite sushi is the unagi roll or eel roll, also the chiles toreados in the menu are great, and on top of all the staff was verry friendly. Their dessert menu is great plus everyone should try their tempura icecream is great.

There are better sushi bars in Tucson...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/14/05
Being a Los Angeles native, I have always been told by my first generation Japanese friends that if you go into a sushi bar and you don't see a male Japanese sushi chef, that you shouldn't even bother with that restaurant. I still tried Saga anyway, and sure enough, I was fairly dissapointed in their sushi. Most rolls have lettuce in it (um, okay...I've been eating sushi for 15 years now and have NEVER seen lettuce in a roll), and the rolls that didn't were few and far in between. The spicy scallop roll wasn't bad, and neither was the Philadelphia roll. I also have had the teriyaki beef there, and although it was a little expensive, the sauce was sweet and the beef was cut into wonderful bite-sized pieces. The green mussles here made me sick once, but I guess you take a chance with any shellfish in Tucson. Bottom line, there are many sushi bars in Tucson that are much better in quality, price, and selection (ie, Sushi Ten, Sushi Hama). Oh, and not to mention, male Japanese sushi chefs.

As comfortable as eating at home
By Is Tucson HOT?, 10/2/04
They have the most unique spin on sushi. One of the head chefs spent 5+ years in Mexico City. Lots of latin american spices to compliment the traditional Pacific Rim seasonings.
