Millie's East Pancake Haus

Description

This quaint, country-style eatery offers some of the most satisfying breakfasts and lunches in Tucson. It's a comfortable, family-style country restaurant with accents from abroad. The menu runs the course from home style American to German, Scandinavian, Russian and Slavic specialties. If it's a pancake or waffle, you'll probably find it here. Breakfast is the big draw, but sandwiches, salads, soups and incredible desserts are also offered at lunch.

I live in San Diego and visit Tucson about 2-3 times a year. My hosts know that one of our stops has to be at Millie's. Everything I've had there is good but the Apricot blintzes and apricot stuffed french toast are to-die-for!!! I love to cook and would do pretty much anything to get that apricot compote recipe. Go eat there! You won't be disappointed!!!!

My husband and I have been to Millie's twice. The potato pancakes are great (although thin, so make sure you get 3), but the German pancake I had was extremely dry, dusty, and brittle, like overcooked pizza crust. It was not what I expected. I am used to the one at the Original Pancake House in Scottsdale that is awesome! DO NOT ORDER THIS unless they promise to not overcook it! Otherwise, it's not worth the 9 bucks they charge. I briefly considered bringing mine home to feed it to the birds. Rating poor for the apple pancake only, otherwise average.

The best breakfast is always at Millie's
By LaurenFM, 4/30/06
Millie's is a charming breakfast stop with an amazing menu and a great variety - even the pickiest of eaters will find something they'll like. They have everything from waffles, to french toast, eggs, biscuits, crepes and fresh fruit bowls. Make sure to try their great apple butter! Forget a reviewer with one bad experience, Millie's is consistantly busy with people who love the kitchy down-home decor and the huge pancakes. In addition, they offer a lunch menu starting after 10:30 that features sandwiches and burgers. All my friends and I highly recommend Millie's!

Do Not Go!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/7/06
We should have known when a sign posted at the front door stated that an experienced cook was needed. Two orders for eggs benedict with fruit were taken. After a 35 minute wait ordered was delivered with under cooked eggs (raw) covered with hollandaise sauce. Fruit was served on same plate as eggs and was covered with broken raw egg as well as holladaise sauce. Orders were returned to kitchen. The second order was delivered and eggs were hard which certainly was better than raw, however, did not live up to the traditional eggs benedict. The fruit was returned on a new plate. An attempt had been made to wash the original fruit. The fruit was presented on a separate plate with water and some hollandaise that was missed when washing. A couple at another table had the same problem--sending eggs benedict back to the kitchen two times. The server was very flustered. Not a good experience. When we reported to the hostess as we were paying that the experience was a nightmare, she had no comment. DO NOT GO ----
