haha... I'm surprised Ra doesnt already have a 5 out of 5! This is, by far, the best sushi restaurant in town. The atmosphere is great. The sushi is FANTASTIC. I go for the Vegas Roll... unlike any Vegas Roll I've ever tried!!! Sundays are pretty good for their sushi happy hour, and later, their drink specials.

Viva las Vegas vs. Godzilla
By ,.-~^~-.,, 6/13/05
Pros: The Viva las Vegas and Godzilla rolls are AWESOME, great views of the Catalinas from the patio, great roasted rice green tea. Cons: teenie tiny nigiri, overpriced by 20%, slow service. Overall: I'm generally a nigiri or sashimi guy, but not here. Go on Sunday, sit on the nearly empty patio, and soak in the sun and people watch.

Yummy all around

The atmosphere is awesome, for someone of my age (college) and the music is great too! Kind of Americanized atmosphere-wise but refreshing considering most sushi places are plain and boring. Sushi is very tasty, yet kind of on the small size and a little more expensive. Monkey roll is fabulous..mango, avocado, cashews, tuna, mmm! Good combo...and I'm a sushi addict. Go to happy hour. Cheap sake bombs. Great deals, somewhat limited on rolls, but I definitely recommend!

The sushi is amazing! I have never had sushi that was as fresh as Ra's. Don't even bother with Takamatsu, Sushi Garden, or Sakura. Ra is the place to go.

For the sushi neophyte and the frat boy/sorority girl/single whatever set, Ra deserves five stars. The scene on the weekends is sick; incredible music from solid DJ's, shnazzy decor, and beautiful people. Drink enough and meet enough of the Foothills set, and you too may believe that Ra is the greatest sushi place in the Southwest. All this is smoke and mirrors, however, designed to hide the sub-par menu. There is an evident lack of soul in the preparation of the sushi rolls; from their tiny circumference (is the rice crisis that bad?) to the fact that they fall apart upon a stern glance. The miso is watered down by the standards of anyone who has had the real thing served to them, and while serving size is often limited when the fare is gourmet, Ra hardly qualifies. Service is decent; none of the snottiness you might expect from a Foothills joint, but I also keep food prep in my service spectrum, so again, I was disappointed, In short, go for the atmosphere (provided you are on the prowl) but not the food.

I have been going to Ra for almost five years now, and it is one of my favorite places in town. The service and the food are always spot on, but like any restaurant anywhere they make mistakes. On the very few occasions something has been wrong with my meal it got taken care of, usually above and beyond what I would have asked for. This is not a traditional Japanese sushi bar, but as far as I know they have never claimed to be. What they are is an incredably energetic and fun American rock and roll sushi restaurant, and if you are expecting something different maybe this isn't the place for you. Yes the music is loud, yes the waiters act more like your friends than your servants, and yes there is usually a wait, but for me these are good things (except for the wait part) They are obviously doing something right as they are constantly one of the busiest restarants in Tucson, and I have watched more than a few imatators come and go in the last few years and none of them have gotten it right. The happy hour is one of the best in town and coupled with the view, the atmosphere, and the staff, this place is not to be missed. If you are looking to relax and have some great food and drinks with friends than you have to give it a shot. If you are looking to complain, or fight with your girlfriend/boyfriend or generally be a pain in the ass, do the rest of us that enjoy coming here a favor, and either stay at home, or go somewhere else. Or here is an idea, open your own restaurant and you can play the music as loud as you want...
