Roccos Little Chicago
Chicago transplant and former rock musician, Rocco DiGrazia, brings a bite of the Windy City to Tucson at Rocco's Little Chicago. The choices include double-crusted pies and thin-crust, square cut options. With names like the Heart Attackpiles of meat and tons of cheese, and Fungus Humongousmega-mushrooms, it's obvious this isn't health-conscious dining, but it's a delicious indulgence. A few sandwichesalso of mammoth proportions, are also offered and beer and wine are served. Quite likely, Rocco himself, will prepare your pizza.
This place is pretty reasonable but not super-cheap, with decent pizza. And their meatballs are tasty.
We had read a throng of good reviews about their pizza and could hardly wait to taste it. But when they finally served us ours, it was, well, just a pretty good pizza.
We were there on a Saturday afternoon and even though the place was half-filled the service was on the lousy side. Our salads arrived after we had finished our pizza. The staff acted inconvenienced when we asked for booster seats for our 2 little kids. So the food is decent, prices okay and service dicey. I will not be back, except maybe for a take-out meatball.
We thought we'd make everyone happy, and dine at 3 pm on a Saturday with our 1 year old....
To make it even better, we wanted to order ahead so that we could eat fast before he got restless. OH, no. They don't do that.... You CAN'T order ahead.
Can't. You heard me.
Take out or dine in. You cannot place your order to have your pizza cooked when you get there so that your 1 year old doesn't go nuts sitting for over 30 minutes waiting. I thought it was brilliant for all involved. We decide to order take out but then ask to eat there when we arrive. Get this: they say they have to charge us extra for that??? We said... fine. Well, not only do they charge us... they make us wait an extra thirty five minutes, letting our pizza sit in the back!!!!
Guess they taught us a lesson. Not only did our toddler end up going nuts... but we are so disappointed in Rocco and his terrible waitresses...
Padded our check, never gave us a breakdown... just a total! Rude waitresses. Soggy pizza. And for what? The place was almost empty!!
Do you know why they don't do call ahead orders??? They say it's because it's not FAIR to other customers. Huh? Others that got there before us may get their pizza after us.... that's not fair. HuH?? Then they should have called ahead, too! Such a small place should use any tactic they can to get us in and out faster!! Less lines and wait time would mean more customers!!!
Okay, so not family friendly. Beware: your check will probably be wrong in their favor. Be prepared: wait staff not cool. Bring a book: pizzas take a long time to cook. We used to like the pizza, but won't visit again any time soon. Oh, and they don't have air conditioning, so be prepared to sweat! :(
Met friends there for their AWESOME wing night (I'm still partial to the deep dish, tho). I dropped my wallet. Know for sure I had $200 in cash. Next day I backed tracked to Rocco's. The waitress turned in my wallet- with exactly $200 in it. Great food, with wait staff who have a lot of integrity! Thank you!
We have traveled from coast to coast and NOWHERE but Chicago had we found GREAT Pizza, until NOW! Here in Tucson, Arizona a small family style restaurant with a warm atmosphere, GREAT service and superb taste is Rocco's. BEST pizza this side of Chicago. If you like great Italian style Chicago food, THIS IS THE PLACE... You will not be dissappointed.
Rocco’s Little Chicago on 2707 E. Broadway Blvd ripped me off.
The owner (Rocco) personally overcharged me after I’d asked the waitress is the Quarter a wing deal was still on Wednesday evening.
She said “yes”….
Rocco didn’t honor what his waitress told me.
Worse than that he muttered insults barely under his breath as I turned to leave after paying full price.
He is a poor excuse for a human being, however, he is very proud of the fact the business has been there 10 years!
He is willing to overcharge a customer (me) at the expense of his character (or lack thereof).
Good going, Rocco!
All Tucson diners should avoid Rocco’s Pizza on Broadway.
He won’t honor a deal…..and is a cheap sleazeball on top of that!
Great food, great atmosphere! The food is always fresh and made to order.
However, this is a small operation, so don't expect corporate style food service. This place gets busy, and the food takes a while, but is always delicious and always worth the wait! Don't go here if you're in a hurry.
The pizza dough is ALWAYS delicious. Usually, I don't mind parting with my pizza crust, but this stuff is worth every bite! The lunch slices are no comparison to having the pizza made freshly to order.
The sauces and dressings are all homemade, and you can taste the difference!
This place is top notch~ and addictive!!!
A cute little place not far from downtown. I figured I go for a quick bite with the wife and kids an see how it compared with the rave reviews. Well if this is REAL Chicago pizza then I just don't like Chicago style pizza. When compared with Brooklyn Pizza on 4th ave (awful) and Zachary's on 6th (pretty good), it ranks in the middle. We sat outside which was very nice but it may have led to the waiter forgetting to place our order. Lunch took nearly an hour for 2 slices of deep dish pizza, chicken wings and some nuggets for the kids. The wings were very tasty and the kids loved the nuggets but the pizza was just ok. The thick crust was really bland and the sauce is served on top of the cheese which create a bit of a mess. The sauce was seasoned well and otherwise tasted fine though it was colder then the pizza as if it was made in a pot and poured over the pizza at the last minute and the cheese was rather tasteless. Also the bathroom was smaller than a broom closet. On the plus side the waiter always kept our drinks full, the atmosphere was nice, and the menu seems rather extensive so maybe next time I’ll try something like a salad, an Italian sandwich, calzone, wings or other pizza crust styles.
