My friend and I ordered the dinner special which was a half rack of ribs. Three minutes after we placed our order the ribs come out along with a stale dinner roll that crumbled all over the plate as I picked it up. The ribs were dry, old and nasty looking and tasted just like beef jerky. They obviously had been cooked several days earlier and had just been warmed over. The potatoe salad was just a concoction of instant potatoes which some pickle relish mixed in, yuck!! The key here is that if you don't see any smoke billowing over the pit outside don't even bother to go in unless you like overpriced beef jerky. The place could use a good cleaning also. Not recommended.
I love this restaurant! Think it's the best Willcox has to offer. We have a lot of lunches there with large groups for work and they always have accomodated us with friendly service and great food. I have also went there with family and my children thought it was so neat to eat inside a railroad car! What makes it authentic is when a real train goes by (track are right across the lot)and you hear and feel the ground move, you should of seen my kids faces-they though we were going to take off!
Food is great! Try the huge baked potatoe with bbq brisket and you must have the fried green beans they are awesome!
This resteraunt was terrible. First of all the place is just sad on the inside dark and dim. Second I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu which was a full rack of ribs and my girl got the brisket sandwitch. To our surprise after the rude waitress didnt even bring us water our food was on the table in less then five minutes. Red flag. That means the food was NOT FRESH at all. The ribs were terrible. They were so dry that the last four were like beef jerky. They trimed no fat off the ribs so they were grisly and just gross. I have never has such terrible BBQ in my life. My girls brisket was ok lathered in the overly sweet store baught bbq sauce. They didnt even cook the frys which were soggy and cold. My beans were plain no salt or seasonings looked like they were just soaked in water. The salad was the best thing figuring its just salad in a bag. I have to say do not eat there. During a recession I would think if you are buying the most expensive thing on the menu you would up your game. Instead I was left feeling hungry yes because I only ate half my dinner, sad because of the depressing resteraunt, and dissapointed as a BBQ resteraunt where you eat in a box car has so much potential. This place does not even deserve one star. Dont eat here. Get a snack at the circle K then go down the road and find something else.
After a tour through Kartchner Caverns, my son and I made the drive from Benson to Willcox to try out Big Tex BBQ. I had seen the restaurant on a trip out to the Chiricahuas and wanted to try it. The entry for the restaurant is an old railroad dining car and there's a big smoker out on the corner that was billowing smoke. The people were friendly, waitresses and patrons alike. The brisket we had was tasty and tender and the sides were wonderful. For a bit of old west hospitality & experience, give it a try. (Easy access from I-10)
