Caffe Milano

Description

From breakfast to lunch, this closet-sized downtown cafe is bustling with business people looking for a quick and flavorful bite to eat. Because of its small size and its great popularity, you may have to wait awhile to place your order. In the morning, croissants, muffins and a few breakfast entrees are served along with a full range of specialty coffees. Panini sandwiches are the lunch of choice with a variety of fillings. Daily specials range from salads and sandwiches to hot entrees.

I got lost, alone, walking around downtown Tucson looking for another famous restaurant. The owner stopped me on the street and asked me if I was lost and why didn't I have something to eat at his place. He was very sweet, with a thick Italian accent but wearing cowboy boots, jeans, a western shirt, and a bolo tie with a silver and turquoise concha. He and his wife are great! After I had been hiking around all day, first in the desert, then in the mountains, then in the dark downtown, their server was so sweet and helped me pick the most perfect, comforting dish of Gnocchi. I chose it half-and-haf with a hearty authentic meat sauce on half and the most delicious most mouthwatering gorgonzola sauce on the other. Even their bread was good, served with a yummy herb butter. The restaurant was not very busy and I didn't even go inside, since it was perfect weather to eat on the patio. So I have no comments on the decor or atmosphere. I found the service to be responsive: at least 4 different people asked me how my meal was, including both the owners. Their hours are a little odd, so be sure to check in advance.

Absolutely wonderful - one of the best restaurants in Tucson by a very long shot. The best lunch sandwiches I have ever had and spectacular weekend dinners - very reasonably priced. You will be hard pressed to find anything that compares in Tucson or anywhere else for that matter.

Eating at Caffe Milano is an absolute joy. The pasta dishes, the sandwiches, and the salads are a gastronomical treat. I am very pleased having this little gem of a restaurant in downtown Tucson.

Great lunch!
By cath61, 1/28/09
Everything was wonderful! I met a friend there for lunch, it was a recent perfect rainy day. The people were friendly, the menu was incredible, the service was quick but not rushed, and even though they got busy while I was there, I never felt pushed to leave. Since I usually feel overly full on a lot of italian food, I opted for the half panini and Greek salad. It was plenty, with a lot of meat on the sandwich, toasted to perfection, and just the perfect amount of Greek olives and feta cheese that I adore. Prices were very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Milano's and plan to go back again to try the rest of the menu!

Great food and great service. To our luck they are now open some evening weekends, and have a wine list. The pastas are great as is the rest of the menu. Don'leave without having a great expresso and one of the desserts prepared by Laura.

This place is absolutely wonderful. It is one of the top 5 Italian restuarants in the city. I wish they would stay open for dinner.

AUTHENTIC FLAVORS OF ITALY IN TUCSON
By zubin, 4/24/07
My family was in Tucson for a national fencing meet. The area around the convention center, the venue for the fencing event, does not offer much variety as far as eating establishments. We found Caffe' Milano and we a bit reluctant to enter, but we quickly realized we had found a gem in the heart of Tucson. Boston, our home, has many Italian restaurants, many of which are not authentic at all; they serve what Americans think Italian food is. Caffe' milano is truly authentic. You will be greeted by Carlo, the owner, and you are made to feel at home. We tried two pasta dishes half a dozen of their panini while we were in Tucson. The food is simply superb. Laura, Carlo's wife and the cook, explains that she tries to keep the flavors simple. She cooks as if she would for her own family. Don't forget to try an authentic espresso. Carlo uses only Illy coffee, the best coffee in Italy. We wish the restaurant would open nights throughout the week and not just on weekends.

Don't miss this great Place.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/06
Terrific place! Truly authentic Italian food. The owner and chef have moved to Tucson from Italy in the past few years and they brought their recipes with them. We always enjoy going - perfect for lunch or before a show at the Fox or TCC. Lunches and dinners are geat. I iike their antipasta and salads for lunch. Dinners I usually have their special for the day. The prices are very reasonable - especially the wine.
