Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant, Peoria

This was my first time eating at Abuelos and certainly my last. I test the Chile Relleno at every restaurant in Arizona that offers it and theirs was certainly the worst. The food came as essentially soup on a plate. The dish was completely flat with no differentiation between the beans, papas con chiles, or cheese, running together in one soupy mess. It looked like it was microwaved preprepared, and when asked the waitress stated the dishes are made the morning of and reheated when ordered. Even if you're ordering dinner it was made that morning, so it's not fresh and not made to order. The Chile Relleno itself was about 3 inches big, the smallest Chile Relleno I've seen. 90% of the plate was the side dish mush. If you want a great Chile Relleno in Arizona and great food in general, I recommend El Encanto in Cave Creek, Arizona or Z'Tejas in Scottsdale, but definitely avoid Abuelos.

Been there a couple times now and not impressed with the menu. Service was nothing to brag about and chips and salsa were okay. Too fancy for me. I'm more for a little family owned hole in the wall place when it comes to mexican food.

Unlike many of the restaurants in the Glendale Arrowhead area; Abuelo's takes dinner reservations which makes it a great spot to grab a meal before any event at the Glendale Arena. Service is prompt and the food has been good both times we've eaten there. Price is not 'cheap' but is reasonable for the portions served and the moderately upscale feel to the restaurant. We will be back.

Just wanted to put a good word in on Abuelos, best upper class Mexican restaurant I've ever enjoyed. Food is good and the service has been excellent, this is from four years experience with this place. The queso rocks, and I love the Laredo Combo plate. Definitely do it. The dessert Nachos are the best!!

On a whim, my family and I visited Abuelo's to celebrate my brother's birthday. The restaurant is located in a very nice area with many other establishments within walking distance. Even though we arrived during dinner time, we only waited a couple of minutes to be seated. Our server arrived quickly and distributed menus and took our drink orders. The food selection is good and the prices are reasonable. Our food arrived quickly and it tasted terrific. Our server was attentive without being disruptive. Needless to say, we were very pleased with our experience and look forward to our next visit.
