I was doing a search on who had the best deep dish Chicago pizza in Phoenix and after narrowing down my places, I came up with Vito's. Well I had never tried Chicago style pizza before but I'm a big fan of new york style. I must say that I wanted to go to a place that everyone else said was good and I'm definitely not disappointed. I don't know how good this rates against other Chicago style pizza places but I know what I like and I'm loving the sauce and toppings. I must say that this place is almost an hour round trip from where I live but I was worth the drive if you can believe that. Apparently from the reviews, the place got a bad rap for being run down but the place looked redesigned... just was kinda small so I took my pizza to go.
I searched 3 years to find decent pizza in the Phoenix area. Vito's Chicago style pizza is the best around. His deep dish is better than you'll find in downtown Chicago. It takes 45 min. to bake but well worth the wait.
One thing is certain, just because the Arizona Republic gives a restaurant a good rating, that doesn't make it so. Vito's was anything but good. Never mind that the place is a hole in the wall, as I normally like those kinds of places because they usually house some outstanding eating. But this place was dumpy inside. As far as the food goes, they serve basically either deep dish or thin crust Chicago style pizza. There were four of us, and we ordered two different deep dish pizzas. Both were lousy. The pizza was basically nothing but thick crust heavily covered in tomato sauce. And it wasn't very good sauce either. It tasted like it was right out of the can. There was very little cheese on it. Gads sake, a pizza with hardly any CHEESE?? We ordered mushrooms and sausage, and had to hunt through our pizza to find the items. We surely never tasted them as the sauce overpowered everthing. It was even running off of our pizza. The same was true for the other pizza our table ordered. I can't believe that others are rating this place so good. That is why we decided to try it. I would not waste my time or money here, as it was not cheap for something that was made very cheaply. This was truly the worst pizza I have eaten since living in Arizona. If you want a real deep dish Chicago style pizza and a good one at that, you have to go to Uno's.
I now live in Tucson and every time we go to Phoenix we ALWAYS stop by! I keep tell Vito I don't know what we'll do when he and Rosa retire cause you can NOT get a pizza better than theirs!!! Simple the best!
I haven't been to Chicago or any other famous pizza place. But I have to say this is the best deep dish pizza I've ever had! Well except for this one place in Canada, where I'm from. Anyway the crust is so good, and the toppings.....yumm! They owners are really cool too, it's nice to see the same people every time I go there.
This place is the real deal,,, the owners are Sicilians, from Chicago, and they are awesome. The pizza is the best Ive had, and Ive had lots. Mouth watering deep dish made by hand, the way its supposed to be. I wont eat anyone else's pizza, I buy them whole and freeze it by the slice so I always have some!!!!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!
