Fama Mexican Bakery (la)
You'll think you've just crossed the border when you enter La Fama Mexican Bakery establishment. This small business offers big tastes when it comes to delightful sweet breads and traditional Mexican pastries. Enticing aromas filter throughout the neighborhood, urging you to relinquish your will power. Watch them prepare these treats fresh daily through the open kitchen window. Be sure to bring cash when you visit, because they do not accept credit cards or checks. When your appetite is sated, wander over to the friendly streets of nearby Catlin Court for serious antique shopping or simple browsing.
You're right the tamales and buritos are fabulous. But I quit shopping there because of the flies sitting on the pastry. The tortillas are out of this world but the floors are usually in need of a cleaning. I will revisit from time to time to see if the conditions improves. I love their food but the house keeping falls far sort.
The tortillas here are the best! Take a dozen home, heat them up, and smear butter on them. Yum!!! They're the only tortillas that can compare with my mom's. The red burritos are delightfully savory and the ones with green chile with potato are for those who want a scorchingly hot yet flavorful experience. I can only handle the red ones; get the green ones for those who like extreme heat. But don't leave without taking a couple dozen tortillas!
This place USED TO be great, not anymore. The pastries are stale, the burritos are cold, and the tortillas are not even worth a penny...they harden within 5 seconds of heating. The parking is horrendous as it's right on the street, good luck backing up. The only reason I went here is because La Purisima bakery on 47th ave and Glendale was closed for the day, now I remember why I never went back. The place is filthy; there was a fly buzzing around the sweet bread.
TRY LA PURISIMA BAKERY!!! IT'S SPECTACULAR!!!
