Went for Lunch buffet Today, The Food was Horrible with all leftover food served. No Paneer in Matar Paneer, The Rice looked reheated and were dry. Desert was mixture of something left for 1 week, Samosa were filled with leftover cabbage(no potato). Waited too long for Naaan to be served. and best part the owner and friends started their Lunch and took no food from Buffet, they probably knew how dangerous it would be for them.
Will never visit again.
On a fine evening Ordered a To go biryani order and it was awful without any taste.. The chicken and the basmati rice are definitely not cooked today and seem to be re-heated multiple times..Probably saving the left over lunch menu item for quick cash. I would definitely would not recommend this place to anyone.
It was like a long dream come true. After much wait the search was complete and I can assure my friends from other states visiting me to have food at a decent indian restaurant in the valley. Though I have already spent 5 years in AZ spending first year to try out every indian restaurant in phoenix, tempe and mesa but somehow never came across Priya restaurant. After my cousin who is a frequent visitor to this place asked me to try it out I thought I will try it out on 1st jan 2011. I had 3 friends who are really choosy about Indian food. But Priya stood out to everyone's expectation. The menu consists of southindian and northindian food. i would rate the statndard of Sambar and chutney to be above other south indian restaurants in AZ. The buffet is so vast with 3 types of chicken, 4 kinds of rice including biriyani, vada, idly, rasam, green veg curries, cauliflower, orka brinjal and few other mouth watering dishes. Everything was delicious made to near perfection. The naan bread was soft and made with right amount of flour, soda and oil to make it soft even after it was cold. The dessert had carrot halwa and fruit salad which were more than just good. The andhra chicken was the ultimate dish they had and having this with naan reminded me of food on Indian Dhabas. When I asked the owner where did he get teh cook from he surprised me by saying her wife and kids cook it. I have every reason to believe it as per the taste comparing it with many indian restaurants where mexican chefs cook Indian food. If i ever think of Indian food, iw ill only think of Priya as long as I am in Phoenix.
If i rate this restaurant's food as 10 then the seccond one will come at a distant 6 may be.
Pros - variety of food items, Taste nearly matching pure indian food, Owner was good friendly and down to earth.12$ will fetch you more than 12 items
Cons - tandori chicken was not upto mark but there are very few who can make actual tandoori chicken. if you are not indian and cant handle spices then may be you have to go easy on what you eat here.
All my feed back are based on my one time visit(lunch) to this place.
I did not know that there was a buffet on Saturday night which i guess they have recently introduced but anyways the food was good and especially the biryani which i came to eat for luckily the biryani was included in the buffet and it was placed in a pot which gave an Hyderabdi look and taste. over all the food was good.
We ate the lunch buffet. The food was cold, the vegetables soggy, the chicken dry, and the naan hard. The service was non existent and cold. At $12/person ( they charged my young child who had one serving the same price ) I will never be eating here again.
My wife and I just had the Saturday lunch buffet there. We showed up at 2:00 p.m. and all the food was warm and fresh. They continued to bring out fresh food during the last hour of the buffet which is rare for most lunch buffets and everything was delicious. It was a bit on the spicy side, but that's the way I like it - there's nothing worse than bland Indian food... The tandoori chicken was especially juicy, which is again rare for the Indian buffets I've been to. All in all, we loved it and will definitely go back. They also kept bringing out fresh Nan for the buffet. The mango lassi was superb as well. The place was full of people of Indian descent, we were the only caucasians in there - always a good sign. Service was prompt and friendly. I don't know why there have been so many negative reviews unless the competition is writing them...I suggest you try Priya yourself, I think you'll love it.
I have been to Priya 2days back. i really love the food & friendly service over there. The food is so delicious, homemade and i really luv the super buffet which includes the panipuri, fresh dosa and a variety of chats. Nobody can stop going there once they taste the food of priya. According to me, i bet u guys, tats the best indian restaurant in AZ. Noone else has their taste of mutton biryani, goat masala & chicken.mmmm...i am even going for lunch buffet today..
The samosa and my chicken tikka masala were HORRIBLE.They cooked with a lot of oil.The serving were very small compared to the price.I had read the earlier reviews and i thought they were a bunch of babies that were complaining. But it is true this place sucks.Don't go there.Does anyone know of a good indian restaurant in Tempe?
The experience was ver disappointing. The food tends to be overly oily and most of the North Indian food ends up tasting the same. I understand that the family is South Indian but promise great North Indian food. We ordered a couple South Indian dishes and a couple of North Indian meat dishes. The uttapam was way too oily and it had a horrid stale oil taste. My mom asked about the Hydrabadi Biryani and was told it was the chef's speciality - my mom almost had to stip the food out of her mouth. Aside from the food being a huge disappointment, the workers in the restaurant have South Indian movies blaring on the over sized TV. Not a good atmosphere for a good meal. Very disappointed since it's right around the corner from our place and we were hoping that we'd luck out.
