Monti's La Casa Vieja
Monti's La Casa Vieja est. 1871 - 140 years old and still going.... Family owned and operated for over 54 years, Monti's offers gracious hospitality and great food at reasonable prices. Built in 1871, Monti's La Casa Vieja ("The Old House") has a unique western atmosphere. Originally Tempe's founding pioneer home, Monti's has been carefully restored to reveal foot thick adobe walls, river rock in the floors and even a fountain in one of the many large dining rooms. Guests can dine in the very room where Sen. Carl Hayden, "The most important person in Arizona history", was born in 1877. Known for our steaks but even more known for our freshly baked roman bread - it will keep you coming back for more. Monti's is just a few short steps from the METRO Light Rail stop in downtown Tempe.
The best steak I have ever had, and coming from Texas that means something. My t-bone was not over or under cooked, and seasoned to perfection. Just writing about makes my mouth water.
The staff was friendly, and for such as busy night, we didn't seem to wait very long for a table for six.
If you are ever in Phoenix, and near Tempe, and in the need of a good steak. Think Monti's!
We had a great lunch...Food was awesome, ambiance was nice and prices are reasonable. My wife left her glasses on the table and from the time we walked out to the car and walked back in, no one could place where the glasses were. The busboy said the waiter picked them up and he was no where to be found. besides the busboy, no one, including the manager could be bothered to assist us in locating the glasses. We were told we would have to wait until the server returned 4 hours later!
The glasses were located eventually but it is a real shame that a good lunch was soured by the lazy people who couldn't be bothered to take five minutes to look around for these!
