We'd been loyal fans of Sahara Restaurant and were disappointed when they closed, but thrilled to find them at their new location:
1804 E. Southern Ave (& McClintock intersection)
Tempe, AZ 85282 480-966-1971
It's the same awesome food and very reasonable prices. The ambiance is really nice in their new location - nice paint scheme and decor. A noticeable improvement - but I would have eaten anywhere to enjoy their quality food again!
The lentil soup is awesome! I used to always get their salad with the really good tangy yogurt dressing, but one day we tried the lentil soup and it's a staple for us now.
My husband likes the Shwarma and curry dishes, but I'm a Chicken Tikka fan! Their hummus is really good as well. :)
I've noticed some folks coming in for take-out, so that's an option if you're passing through in a hurry.
I hope you give it a try - let me know what you think! :)
The new location is: Sahara Restaurant 1804 E. Southern Ave., Suite 1 Tempe, AZ 85282 Corner of Mclintoc+Southern. Near the SS Freeway
Best Middle Eastern Cuisine I've tasted, good prices, very authentic.
I come all the way from Wisconsin to enjoy it.

I just read the last review posted on the 23rd on Jan. and I too was shocked to find this restaurant closed and fenced off. I ate there a few times myself and thought it was a neat location right across the street from Downtown. I hope they will reopen again. Their food was superb, prices fantastic, and they did a lot of business! I got to speak with the owner a couple of times and he said he was very pleased with the opportunity to serve his native food to his guests. So, I hope they will relocate somewhere close by.
Please if you had a bad experience perhaps look at yourself because the MIDDLE EASTERN FOOD is AUTHENTIC and FRESH DAILY! THE PRICE IS RIGHT TOO and not to mention Mama can cook the most delicious food weather it be a Pita or a Kabob or a Elegant dinner definately would give them two thumbs up I have been eating the food for over 25 years and belive me taste and yummy smell has not changed from the first bite to my millionth:) By the way congradulations to the faimly on finding a new location and thinking of there customers and the inconvience caused to not the owners but the customers should they have not found a establishment that would have put there customers out YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS we love you Sahara's KUDOS to the owner's for thinking of the customer needs first....May you be on Rural for many years sucessfully!
I have been a customer of the Sahara on Mill for over 10 years. They are moving to their new location in Tempe & this is their new address 903 South Rural (SE corner of University&Rural)Under the same name and the same menu! Same quality/taste/value cuz `mom` is still cookin`! 480 966 1971
Sahara is awesome! The ONLY reason some people think the service is bad is because they are so small and family-owned that they fill up quickly and get very busy. But they are busy because people love it there! If you don't have enough patience to wait a couple of minutes for a refill then go to a gross chain place and get mediocre food.
Best middle eastern food in Phoenix, if you want bette r you have to go to LA. I am astonished why anyone would rate their service bad. The owner and his family are some of the nicest people in the business and treat their customers like family too. There are reasons this place is extremely busy despite being in an awful location, because customers keep coming back. Maybe the person who complained should try treating people better, it is amazing how nice most people can be when they are treated like human beings.
-flavorful dishes, desserts and beverages (rice pudding, lemonade)
-excellent prices (filling meals for under $10)
-location (center of the valley - Tempe!)
i could eat here every week!
