Don & Charlie's
Don & Charlie's menu reflects the kind of fine American dining that has never gone out of style. The most popular menu items remain USDA prime steaks; hickory - smoked BBQ baby back ribs and chicken; prime rib; and fresh fish. Don & Charlie's features a comfortable atmosphere with warm wood paneling, banquettes, and crisply white - clothed tables. The star attraction is the veritable sports museum housed throughout the restaurant. It is thought to be the largest collection of sports memorabilia west of the Mississippi. It includes literally hundreds of autographed bats, balls, jerseys, and photos from athletes of past and present. It is not unusual to see celebrity players from every sport dining at the restaurant. Don & Charlie's is a Scottsdale landmark with a national reputation, their food and ambiance have been lauded in Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Gourmet Magazine and dozens of other publications.
Don & Charlie's is a must-visit for every baseball fan! The memorabilia collection is beyond anything I've ever seen elsewhere. We visit every year, during Spring Training, and always book a month ahead of time. The food, ambience and service can't be beat - the chopped liver complimentary appetiser is to die for! The staff have been unfailingly fabulous, and the prime rib is the stuff that dreams are made of. Highly recommended.
Don and Charlie's has somehow placed itself as a Scottsdale attraction and is pricing itself accordingly. It is old fashioned cafe food with high-value restaurant prices. One can't blame an owner for maxing out his profits, but one can blame the clientele for paying sky-high prices for mediocre fare.
I should know I have lived in Arizona for over 22 years. DC's is located in the fashionable Old Town district of Scottsdale. In a town where new restaurants come and go like hot actress in Hollywood, DC
I love Don and Charlies...natives of AZ took us there the first time. The baseball/sports theme is great. It doesn't try to be something it isn't, but the food is great and plentiful, good service. For the area it is not overly expensive. I am not a beef lover, everything is good and I love the froglegs there of all places. Wonderful food and fun evening
We went there last night and I've got to say. It wasn't really what I expected, especially being voted one of the Top 10 Steak houses in Phoenix by MetroMix.com. The sports memorabilia mentioned in their reviews were great, if that's what you're going for. The atmosphere was a bit loud, our waitress didn't really pay us that much attention, probably because we were alot younger than the customers there at the time. The majority of customer's, about 90%, were 50+. Yup, not really for the younger crowd and I'm not even that young, I'm in my early 30's. The food was ok if you're not ordering 'Steak' which is what I went for in the first place. The bread appetizers were dry! Crusty, crunchy, sitting around in the open air for about 2 weeks dry w/ a side of Ice cold butter! WTF?! The side salad (an extra $2.50 btw) was a little bland with it's few drops of salad dressing. Off to the main course. The Salmon my girlfriend ordered, unexpectedly, was cooked perfectly, tasty and juicy, not dry at all. My sons child Spaghetti plate was also very tasty, (I sampled it haha), but the medium rare Ribeye Steak with a side of mashed potatoes? Eh. It wasn't all that. The steak was flavorful, but it was a lot tougher than what I'm used to. Let's put it this way, my girlfriend tried it and said it's ok, but not as good as the steaks I grill at home. It might just be me, but I'm used to steaks being easy to cut, juicy and melts in your mouth, not tough to cut, dry or grainy. The flavor was there, but not the texture. The Mashed was well, Mashed potatoes, no problem there. Also, the review said affordable with great food. Affordable? 2 adults and 1 child...... $130!! If I wanted to spend that kinda money, I would've gone to Ruth's Chris for there Ribeye. There Ribeye's are the softest most flavorful I've ever had, just sayin'. That's my take on Don and Charlie's. Great Sports Memorabilia, a little snobby, a bit pricey and good food, if you're not ordering STEAKS.
I went to Don & Charlies with a very good friend, we had drinks and then ate. the food was great as well as the drinks. alot of sports things there, atmosphere was spectacular and service was awesome all around good evening a good place to go with good friends TY Terry for taking me here
