Ate there last night and have been there quite a few times in the past. We were quite surprised to find the place pretty much empty. Even though the sun birds are not back yet, there were only two other tables being served. Our waitress seemed to be more concerned with watching her 12 year old grand daughter run around with a toothpick stuck in her mouth and sitting at the bar talking to the other customer. Not a good image.
We placed our order and waited and waited. Finally we had to ask what happened to our salad. The 12 year old said they forgot what type of dressing we wanted, then came back with a plate that contained a handful of brown iceberg lettuce. Salad? Certainly not. We overheard the other table asking about what happened to their salad as well.
Salsa was 4-alarm hot. I love spicy food but could not eat this it was so hot. That's all they have, nothing mild, just 4-alarm hot. My wife's taco plate did not come with any sour cream or salsa or anything else to put on them. When we asked about that, the 12 year old came back with two different bottles of hot sauce.
My burrito was so spicy hot that the first bite caused me to start choking. It was inedible. Waitress told me there were hot cactus leafs in the burrito! She did ask me if I wanted something else, but it takes so long for the food to come out that I didn't want to wait.
When I told her the recipe changed, she decided the right thing to do was to argue with me about it. Kept telling me this is the way it's always been, and nobody else ever complained. I told her that when I come there, the burrito is what I order, so I know what it tastes like, Did not matter to her, she just argued with me.
Sylvia the cook decided the best way to handle this was to explain how jalepenos are grown and that some are hotter than others. I told her that food prep, especially with fresh ingredients, needs to be tasted before serving. Didn't matter, they just blathered on and on.
Bottom line? Used to be a place for decent, inexpensive Mexican food. Now? Under new management, the place is dirty, both tables and floors, and the food is so spicy hot as to be inedible.
Better to try Los Favoritos, Taco Fiesta, Elvira's, La Raza, Los Gringos Locos, Mi Amigos, Fillibertos, or Taco Bell for Mexican food or one of the 30 odd other restaurants in the area.
