Bandera
Description
Operated by the Houston's organization, Bandera is not only known for its terrific rotisserie-roasted chicken, but as a great place to gather for a friendly drink, or a full meal. Besides the renowned rotisserie chicken, you will find a tasty wild mushroom and veal meatloaf, lamb, seafood and beef dishes. All menu items are filling and priced reasonably. Bring the whole family here for a great meal.
I was looking for a Mexican restaurant in the area and since I could not find one, this place seemed like the closest thing to Mexican (I believe the food is Southwestern). The food was excellent, I had the chicken enchiladas, and the service was amazing. I would definitely come back whenever I am in the mood for a good enchilada.
They have the best mashed potatoes in the valley. The rotisserie chicken is fantastic. It's great to be able to just pull up at the curb and pick up a whole dinner on the way home.
Seriously the mashed potatoes alone make this place worth the wait. I hear they have cabbage in them. I don't eat meant and they offer one of the better veggie plate entrees I've ever had!
Simple Menu, But Great Food Well Prepared. Outstanding Spit Roasted Chicken.Great Fish of Day. Fresh Chocolate Chip Cookie Given When You Leave Restaurant. Fast Service If Eat at Bar.
Everything I've tried at Bandera has been delicious. The rotisserie chicken is especially outstanding. I found it slightly pricey for what it was, but overall probably worth it.
My group of four waited 50 minutes to be sat here- which is my only qualm really. They start you off with grilled french bread. I had the prime rib to follow and loved every second of it! The mashed potatoes were infused with garlic and really were to die for!
Disappointing! I've been eating at Bandera for years (at least 12) and always enjoyed it. Went last night for the first time in about a year and things have changed and not for the better. Not sure when they changed the menu but it is not what it used to be - seems an attempt to move more "upscale" and IMHO, the move is a flop. They still have some of the old stuff (e.g. fire roasted chicken) but companion (also a long-time customer) said the taste had changed and not for the better. I ordered roast pork - tough and almost cold when served. The sides of spinach were also barely warm - not at all enjoyable. Only the cornbread skillet seemed as good as the old days. Also, one of the plates had a large noticeable crack in it (could see even in the dark dining area) and they served a glass of Merlot ICE COLD - should have been at room temp. It's really depressing to see an old favorite change in this fashion - I will not be going back anytime soon.
